I found my 1st shell for $800. It was a silver bottom of the line Americraft (Mfg by Leer). I sold it for $800 to get a bed rack. I like a shell better so I found a Metallic Grey Leer XR for $650. I got it color matched for $300.
I picked it up today from the paint shop and they did an excellent job color matching. I will get it wired up, install the rack tracks back on top, and get a platform built for it this weekend.

    About bulb seal.
The installer said ARE used bulb seal the first couple of years of the 12 he has installed their caps. Now they use flat. I went with his recommendation and am returning the bulb seal to Amazon. He said it raises the height too much. He has never had a leak from the flat seal.
The front of the cap got 3 rows to compensate for the lower height.

Finally found a shell that would fit a DCLB and was the right color, only paid 600$ (CL special) and i love it. Its a leer, sliding windows on both sides and 2 locks on the rear window. Love camping in it and it looks great

Do you have a link for the seal you used? I noticed water on my sleeping platform. I inspected the windows and the roof rack installation and all is dry there. So I'm guessing the water is coming in the sides as I drive.

    Which one?
    The one I returned?
    Or the one they used?
I don't know about the one they used, but, you can call Line X of Asheville.

Ordered up my ARE CX with the OTR option yesterday. If you are in the capital district of NY, Albany Truck Caps and Trailers was a pleasure to do business with and had much better prices then any of the other dealers in my area.

Interesting ... my ARE was installed with flat tape, leaked, but I got it pretty tight with some extra 3M tape strategically applied. Then I removed it, and when I put it back on, I used a dual bulb seal. And now it seems to leak again :( And, it seems to be just that much higher, so the "flap" on the rear of the rear window doesn't overlap the tailgate enough to prevent the tailgate from being able to be pulled open with the window locked. I added a Pop&Lock to lock the tailgate to avoid that problem, but I'm disappointed in the continued leaking ... not sure why the bulb seal would be worse than the thin tape originally used.

I see light/gaps around where my tailgate would be. I gotta see how to close those, but they are unrelated to the seal.
We'll see, I just did what he suggested as I have little experience.
You said it leaked both ways, where did it leak?

I plan on having to take my cap off once or twice a year. Is bulb seal reusable or will I have to replace it each time?

Bulb seal would withstand the removal of the cap a few times a year. If you remove the bulb seal then I'd imagine that the adhesive side would become damaged and make it frustrating to reapply.

The one I bought, linked above, had adhesive on one side, and therefore did look like it could be reused. There are 2 adhesives choices on the Trim-Lok. BT or HT. The BT is a VERY permanent adhesive, and the cs agent recommended I NOT use that one. I got the idea that you would remove some of the cap to remove the adhesive.
