And I've not had any problems since....

I also added some poly tubing to each strike D ring, which made the latch much more snug and softer closing.

This is from when I was refurbishing the door seals and make everything work with my new tailgate reinforcement plate.

Another thought is to double-check is you have any side-specific adjustment on the rods. On the cable system, this hex set screw allowed some fine tuning. Maybe there is a similar provision on the rod system. But the strike adjustment is what worked for me.

Then adjust that strike, and use some lock nuts or washers, or thread locker, if it is not staying put, would be my suggestion.

Good luck. The tubing was pretty thin wall, and I just split it down one side to get it on then zip-tied it. Don't have a size for you. It was some totally random crap in my junk bin. I wasn't very confident in it, and it looks pretty ghetto...but there you go. Works like a charm.

Yea that will be best, you answered my question in your explanation. Worst comes to worst I would call Leer up and get a replacement latch and hinge.

Before you make any changes try getting in the cap and look at the locking from the inside. See what it is NOT doing before you fix anything.

I say that because it looks like it moves all the way to latch. But, maybe not enough.

I think it is an adjustment, try the"d" ring or catch, adjust the cap so it sits square to the tailgate and keep the entire mechanism lubed. There kinda fussy.
