They can all handle a rtt, the load rating is while moving. Are you planing to have anyone up there while driving? If not then pick whatever cap you like.

Yes the lbs rating is for static weight... And if you're not going off road too much or on more than a fire road, you're probably fine with any topper with rails. If you're going anywhere challenging, I recommend the stronger toppers as the flexing will take it's toll I'm and I wouldn't want to be in bfe on a rough trail when it gave out $.02.

I got the topper used so paid less than 1/3 the price of new.

Welcome to the family, Sig, the surf shell hut!!! YEW!!!

Thanks to Bel-Air Camper Shells in Garden Grove, CA for the custom shell. Right on budget and delivered on time.

The interior build out starts this weekend. Will update with pics as we progress. The surfboards will fit inside (the tail will be elevated and rest on a pole inside, not the leaned in way pictured) for day trips and lock to the top for roadies!! So stoked!!

That's awesome. So much room for activities. I would paint a different color like black, but that's just me.

Did they line up the stripes on the back with the lines on the sides? How much is a shell like that cost? We don't see them on the eastern side of the country very often.

Decided not to line up the stripes. I'm in the minority, but, I like them offset. When they were lined up, it looked like the shell was wearing a belt. :)

The starting price for the model is $2469. I reinforced the roof to 500lbs for $200 and added Thule cross bars/surfboard racks for $499 (painfully overpriced, but put in at the build, so the screws and silicone don't show on the interior). Taxes and labor brought the total finished and installed shell to $3728.52.

It's custom made in the USA, so I like that a lot. The work was done well, and on time. Bel-Air has been in business since 1970 in the same location about 45 minutes from us, so that was huge too in case of issues down the road.

Thanks so much!! Took it on the first trip to surf yesterday, SO MUCH room!! Really pleased with the purchase.

I've seen a couple that has a similar one out here that is all gray, no white. It looks really slick! Not my style, but, if you ever go for one, all black would be rad!

Yes I painted my shell with it. Sanded , primer and used about 4 or 5 cans but I did not do the very center because I wrapped the roof to match the cab of my truck and then I did 4 coats of clear. Still need to wet sand the clear but it's to hot here in Vegas. Not happening until September. Match better then I thought it would.

Nicely done. I might give it a shot. I bought the shell for $50 off of CL.

that's great. no heavy offroad/overland use. main reason is for camping purposes and having more room in the bed is my priority.

Need help! just found this ARE shell in craigslist. as you can see in the photos the shell is sitting in the plastic bed rail cap. The seller stated that it's fit in 2005+ Toyota tacoma DCSB. My question is... is that normal for the shell to sit like that? or the plastic bed rail cap needs to remove so that the shell will sit and fit like a glove in the bed. I believe you have an ARE V series. That model is installed correctly, it does not have the same overhang as the CX series which covers the bedsides.
