Fully "caged" my shell in preparation for my new CVT Mt. St. Helens hardshell tent. Going to make a DIY shell rack out of unistrut like @ERMB's, to mount it to. I just got this shell at a good price and wanted to reinforce it since I couldn't afford one with the reinforced top and roof rack tracks. Figured this interior cage would be more than enough. Didn't weld the side bars so I could remove it if I needed to.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Thank you! It took me about 8 hrs. That was getting everything designed, measured, mocked up and welded. Now the weight of my tent and my wife and I inside of it, will be dispersed downward onto the bed rails. I'm gonna do some stuff to the 1/2" steel side rails (these were just to help keep stuff rigid and square) so I can mount stuff. Thinking about a molle panel with hinges at the bottom so I can drop them down to access the windows in case I wanna open them. Or may go cheap and just get some expanded metal, could serve as the same purpose.

It's the ARE Overland. I got it used, but I think it's 500lbs dynamic (so moving).

My Leer is doing it too. Did you take the light off and reseal it or did you just run a bead of silicon around the light while it was still attached to the shell?

I took the light out, replaced it with a new red one, and resealed it with silicone all the way around while it was attached to the shell. Unfortunately though, the new brake light is also doing the same thing just after a few months. Now im thinking i am going to get another one and silicone around the edge of the light, before putting it on, to try and seal the light housing, and then again once i attach it to the shell

I think a good bead line around the light when it's in the shell might work.
    Thanks

Just ordered 2 rigid molle panels from greyman-tactical, like the one pictured. One for each side. It will be 15" X 25.75" and will attach to the 1/2" steel sq tube cross bars. Thinking of permanently attaching them, or attaching a hinge at the bottom to allow them to flip down. Either way, I will still have easy access to the slide window if needed. Gonna head to my local army surplus store to pick up a variety of molle straps and some more pouches. They will likely just hold first aid, small tools and possibly some smaller camp gear. My CVT hardshell shipped today. Last thing to do is my uni strut roof rack on the topper and possibly a Prinsu for the truck cab.

I have always wanted a shell. Finally found it! And on Facebook marketplace of all places--Only an hour away for $150.

Although I'm not sure what is going on with the steel pipes on top. But windows and hydraulics are good. My wife still teasing me for looking like an old guy. I disagree with her

Does anyone have a link or good knowledge of measurements for mounting rails to their shell? Just picked up a snugtop that came with yakima rails and a prinsu that need mounted. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Quick question, I just picked up an ARE DCLB Z series with Yakima bars...what accessories/racks can I use in the tracks? I'm hoping to do a prinsu if possible.

Scrubbed the inside of the new to me shell with some good ol soapy water and a brush. Worked great! Gonna follow up with some paint to make sleeping back there nicer.
