What does a reinforced shell look like? Whats the diff between yours and a reinforced one? I have an ARE shell with windoors and im curious if it can support a RTT. I yakima roundbars with control towers and tracks.

See how the middle part protrudes down about an inch? That means it's reinforced.

My shell looks just like your pic. I even have the same yakima nuts holding on the yakima tracks. Will my top support a RTT? I have these type of windows... the windows do not have a middle support. Im worried the weight of the RRT plus 2 people will be too much weight and since i drilled like 6 holes for the tracks im worried i weakened the structure of the shell. Any thoughts?

That makes sense. But, I also wonder, the rails are outside of the reinforcement. The added weight in on the rails.
I should add .. I have no interest in a RTT. (Maybe if I get one at a flea market) I do use a fully loaded Thule box though.
ARE said my cap is reinforced. I just wonder if they meant 'added reinforcement' or just 'reinforcement'.

I sure as shit hope so, because I'm about to have a 130 lb RTT on mine and a combined 290 lbs between my wife and I up there. Plus my DIY roof rack weighs about 40 lbs on it's own.
Not a clue, but if that's how the companies want to do it, they know something I don't!

Thanks guys. I just picked up another roof basket to put over the cab. Getting my bikes up there after riding the trails is not easy. Ima go with a hitch mount bike rack and pray i dont get rear ended or robbed.

As for the shell please let me know how your shell does after yall get in there @EatSleepTacos, i hope it holds up. My wife and i combined are around 290lbs too. I thought about building a cage under the shell but it would be awesome if i dont have to.

RTT will get all set up this weekend, so I'll let you know how our test run goes! I don't foresee a problem, as a lot of members have them up there.
Thanks! I got a KILLER deal on it used from a local member. $700 for the bumper with powdercoat and the lights.

I disagree with your theory as mine is not reinforced and I have that protrusion

Because I bought it new from leer dealer. There's honeycomb pattern up there but the shell still rated for the 150 lb dynamic rating
