Im going to pull the trigger on an ARE CX today but I have a quick question. ARE wants 230 to install tracks on the top but I can get 60" tracks through yakima at cost and install myself. I have no problem installing myself however I don't want to damage the paint or clear coat. Do I run a risk of doing so if I drill the holes myself?

IMO the tracks-only option is worth it. The install, and especially the sealing of the holes in the roof, is covered by warranty. Then buy all the other parts cheaper elsewhere.

The dealer finally managed to order the right LEER 100XR and throw it on the Taco the day before a week-long desert trip. They somehow ordered a 2015 shell and claimed I was at fault even though I reviewed the order a good 20 times... Took a total of 7 weeks but it was well worth it! Windoor on one side, slider on the other, headliner. Fits a full memory foam topper. Makes for pleasant nights out!

I ordered a CX a week ago, and this is what seemed to be the main trade off. I wasn't overly confident in my abilities to install myself - but definitely didn't want to give ammo to ARE for any potential warranty issue (hopefully won't be issue anyway!).

I ended up ordering the ARE CX with a carpet liner, vented windoors on each side, and the fold down front. I opted to install the tracks myself as I get wholesale pricing on Yakima so I saved 200 doing the install myself.

Visited the truck topper shop today and they quoted me $210 to install rails in order for me to mount up a Prinsu rack. Does that seem reasonable? It's just for the tracks and install, nothing else.

That really doesn't seem too bad, as tracks are about $100 IIRC. Then you have the peace of mind and warranty with them.
