Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
I'm going to install them myself but I'm going with Yakima rails. $139 ( If I go with REI I'll get back $13.90 in member dividends) but I like how water tight they are which is my only real concern. A.R.E. wanted $300 to drill 6-8 holes and attach rails on the top of my truck hence why I didn't do it from the factory

My buddy got the same quote from some place out here in VA and another place wouldn't even do it unless you bought the shell from them. I just drilled it myself and followed yakima instructions pretty easy.

It’s insane how much they charge for a 1/2 hr of pretty straight forward work.

My best guess for the crazy costs is the risk they are taking. If it leaks, they will be responsible for chasing that down on their dime. So they price it ridiculously high so that most won't follow through, but if someone says go for it, they will be more than compensated for their efforts

Straight forward to some is like brain surgery to another. Some people can make a lot of money, talk to people, but hand them a screwdriver and they say "What is this for?". No disrespect meant to those like that, just some people are hands on. I was a skilled precision machinist, but I am not a mechanic. I know better. I can handle a tool, but I know my limits. (I hope I do)

I was quoted $960 to change out a fuel pump in a 1995 Ford Taurus about 20 years ago. I thought “you fear what you don’t know” I knew someone did jobs like that everyday and it was easy to them so I went out and bought a Chiltons book and figured it out. 20 years later I Work in the engineering dept on a tanker. I still have that fear of the unknown and somethings I’d rather pay to have done but It’s still a great feeling to tackle a project that you walked into with a little fear and doubt and overcame with a job well done. :D

Well it’s been a long time coming. Had a canopy on my ranger before the Tacoma and 5 years after getting the taco I finally got a canopy. Tried the tool boxes, did the bed rack and RTT for a while. And I just missed the dry, secure storage and place for the dog. So much easy to haul crap to and from the woods. It was local, on Craigslist, $600, the high top version and in my color.

Im the same way, but with vented wind doors, wish they would have been an option when I got my shell.

I started with a cab-hi shell, and after 2 years upgraded to a high rise.

I lost some money in the deal, but the advantages far outweigh the cost - it was definitely the right thing for me to do.

Personally, I think they look better (more 'Expo'-like (yeah, really bad reason!)) but the extra room inside is wonderful. I have a wheelwell high sleeping platform, so the extra headroom is really appreciated.

Think about it - if it is something you really want/need/will use, do it. If you don't like it, you can always sell it... ;)

Is free good? I drove 2.5 hours to get it but it was well worth the drive. Can't believe it matches the long bed and silver! It's carpeted and has the sliding front window. Other than a faded third brake light, all I had to do was clean the mold and mildew up with a pressure washer and some elbow grease. Sat for six years but looks almost perfect.

One of the clamps wouldn't work so he gave me a c-clamp, and didn't take any money for it either. Great guy!

Im looking for a short bed, cab height shell, ideally in red if anyone is unloading one in the next few months near AZ. Interested in any color if the price is right.
