Has anyone added additional clamps to their shell? How tight are you getting the 4 track mounted bolts?

This happened after driving on a dirt road

I’m thinking maybe I didn’t have the bolts tight enough? I do have 4 additional c clamp style ones that aren’t installed

I have my shell only mounted with the 4. But I do have bed stiffers also. They have helped a lot. I had a tri fold before and I would have to remove when off roading because of the bed flexing. It would pop the clamps off. Just a thought on what it could be.

It's a 10 minute process that's almost impossible to screw up being the way they're mounted to our particular trucks. You'd have to put forth effort to install it incorrectly! Back in the day when we drilled holes in the bed caps, when the shell could be mounted to far forward/backward/left/right, when the rear didn't fit the tailgate worth a shit, etc., it was easy to mess it up. Not on these trucks.

Should be free. How do you get it on if they don’t install it. Trailer?

Right its so damn easy to install but dealers include installation fees in the price and ive seen them upwards of 80 bucks! What a joke! I think its for if it requires wiring a keyless entry or something idk but there shouldnt be a fee considering it takes four bolts and some basic wiring to install. Just wanted to know what to expect when the dealer slaps a fee on there.

Same as everyone above, mine was included in the cost of the shell. They certainly didn't offer any discounts for me wiring it myself.

I wired my own, because I didn't want the installer using those bullshit scotchlock-type wire taps. They were fine letting me leave without the 3rd brake light functioning. I'm sure you could get pulled over/ticketed for not having it working, but that's on the owner/driver, not the installer.

Just bought an ARE cap off Craigslist. Anyone have a link to a video how to install the third brake light or the wiring of it. Also, any ideas on how to add a headliner?

Take all the glass and rear door gasket off, flip it over and lay it on a couple moving blankets over a smooth swept surface or on padded sawhorses. Run your wires down the drivers side rear column and tape these to the shell. The third brake light just piggybacks the drivers side brake wires. If you want lighting you'll need to run a fused wire from the battery. If you plan on having more electrical goodies it might be a good idea to run a heavier wire (Choose a wire more than heavy enough for what you think you'll need) to a remote fuse box near the back and pull dome power from that with awg18. A bulkhead connector with an elbow plug makes for a nice clean connection through the bedwall just below the rail cap. You'll need 4 wires in the cap: brake light +/- and dome light +/- . Install the liner then cut out for the glass. Install the front window, load the cap on the truck, then install the remaining windows.

I don't know shit and didn't sleep at a Holiday in.

So after finding out that Leer wont give me sliding windoors on my short bed I gave up and just got the radius windoors without the sliders. Then today this parks next to me... I still dont understand why they say they cant do it...

I’ve read that from a couple people here. But they do exist, I have them and see them on 2nd gens all the time. Maybe it’s a dealer thing?
