@TSki - nice setup. Did you order your ARE shell with preinstalled rails to be able to mount that rack? TIA.

Yes I did. I thought it would be easier to just let it come that way. This way I didn’t have to stress drilling anything

Nice shell. I have windoor envy. I've wondered if one can be added to my shell but haven't looked into it yet.

IMG_20190316_140914351.jpg If anyone needs a THULE Roof Rack System let me know. It's for a long bed but rails can be easily trimmed for a short bed. Includes huge 80 inch black square bars (Can also be trimmed). I'm on the GA/FL Border. Asking $160 Thanks!

Good info. I assume you've added one before. I figure it's as easy as removing the old window and seal and installing the new windoor with a fresh seal.

I have a 100xr on a short bed...haven't seen a windoor on one. Guess I should contact Leer and check about ordering (unless you'd recommend ordering from somewhere else).

Not sure if it was someone in here or the other shell thread but I was asked how I attached my lights to my shell. I used the double side tape and hot glue gun. My shell is carpet on the inside so not sure if it will would on the bear shell, but this works really well. I laid it not straight on one part and i had give it a good pull to get it off.

I tried getting windoors on the xr and they said they couldnt do windoors on that model. They also said that they can only do the windoors without the sliders for the 2nd gens. You can only get the sliding windoors on the 3rd gens. According to Leer. Not sure how it would be installing them yourself though?

Velcro tape also works for installing LED light strips on the headliner.

My lighting is controlled by a switch that gets power even when the truck is turned off (also added a USB 3.0 charger, volt/amp meter, and 12v plug).

What net are you using and how is it attached to the bar? Looks handy.

It’s just the cargo net out of my wife’s 18 RAV4 and then I zip tied it to the bar. I am 5’6 and with the lift on the the truck it’s a pain if stuff slide to the back of the bed. So I have that so it doesn’t move. The net for smaller stuff.

A question here for the awning folks - Does anybody know of a solution to mount an awning to a shell that does not have roof tracks or crossbars?

Here's my (former) shell: a 2019 Snugtop Rebel. I had it for about two weeks and noticed several manufacturing issues:

    1) Fiberglass was laid too thin on the left side of the shell, resulting in warping/rippling when exposed to heat (i.e. direct, sustained sun)
    2) Windoors leaked horribly at the frame and also at the seals
    3) Color match was definitely off

Maybe this was a rare lemon for Snugtop? Snugtop was willing to repair all the issues I pointed out, but I elected to get a full refund from the shop that sold me the shell instead.

The whole experience put a bad taste in my mouth regarding camper shells. I decided to go with a Diamondback SE.

Just installed the ARE DCU 26-32 wedge. Replaced my shorter 23" Swiss aluminum camper.

    Build starts soon!

No doubt you received a defective shell. Fwiw, my dealer told me recently Leer bought out Snugtop awhile back and made major changes to their former assembly line process. Snugtop used to have employees hand lay the resin and matting but changed to an automated process after Leer took over. Result is the former Snugtop and its shells are not the same product anymore.

Picked up my ARE CX yesterday. For the most part I'm happy with it so far.

Would I give it an A+? No, maybe an A- or B+. The rear alum door frame has a few small dings or nicks in the black powder coat, nothing that cannot be touched up. Each inside small lower rear corner was left open, nothing a small amount of silicone can't fix. So far windows look great. Paint finish is an A, color match perfect, no signs of buffing, minimum orange peel, and only 1 dust speck detected.
