Finally got my shell back from paint!
Decided to strip the shell down to the dinner glass myself to save some cash. Man is it a pain to get everything back together. Still chasing some leaks here and there, but I love having a colored matched shell!

Also whipped up a quick design for a handle for the inside of the front slider window!

And the finished 3d printed product!

How much did it cost to color match?

Conditions are looking great for paddles after work this week!
I fought buying a shell forever, but it's been so nice to be able to secure gear in the bed of the truck and have a spot to chill out and get out of the elements. Snugtop Rebel.

I've gotta do some "field testing" at the moment to see how well the PLA holds up, Me and PLA don't often get along very well but I'm hoping this will be the exception!

Nice well keep me in mind! I never understood why they didn’t include one on the camper build.

This was color-matched and installed by the original owner around the time the truck was new in 2000. It's held up pretty well, except for the weatherstripping around the windows.

    Hi all!
I was just out tinkering with the lock mechanism on my Leer 100XQ (it has the frameless rear glass) and just discovered a super easy method of being able to lock the door while inside the shell!
So here is the lock assembly from the factory in the unlocked position:
    E709635B-C200-48A2-8096-C9D079A85267.jpg
Now here is it in the locked position:
    B7EE198E-A1CA-4485-A24B-4C5A180C740A.jpg
Notice how the highlighted plate shifts to the right when turn the key to lock.

Now I took a Phillips head screw driver and loosened the screw that holds the “tumbler” onto the mechanism:
    7A39EB29-1149-4D54-AA61-81C469509A86.jpg

With the screw loosened, I rotated that tumbler 90* Counter clockwise and tightened the screw:
    0951B5FA-1761-4FA7-8541-173482DC98A4.jpg

    THIS allows you to:
-slide that highlighted plate (from pic #2) to the right with your hands without the need of the key in the mechanism
    7DDD71CA-20E8-4552-9A92-C00CB3C66FE7.jpg

-AND still have normal function of the key from the outside

*NOTE*: the only changes to the function with the key are that you now have to turn the key only 90* (CW for unlocked; CCW for locked); and then return the key back to vertical (up and down) position and viola!

I’m not sure if anyone has figured this out but surely it will help at least one person!
This will be a great feature for camping in the bed like I will be doing!

EDIT: Due to the words of wisdom by @scocar , this pesky little screw likes to come loose and will bite you in the butt. Keeping a spare screw may end up saving you in the long run and care should be taken to make sure this screw stays nice and snug periodically!

May I offer a firm warning. If that screw falls out, you'll be screwed. Ask me how I know. When the screw fell out, along with the tumbler, I spent a long time swearing and trying to manipulate the lock slide from inside the back of my cap with an 8 foot stick of copper to open it. Right before I had to leave for a trip, as usual.

Guy at the local Leer dealer said those fall out all the time...

Do yourself a favor and get at least one replacement screw and keep it in your truck cab. And always use blue thread lock on it. The screw is unusual, I forget the spec, but small diameter, long length. I think I finally found one at West Marine.

That’s actually how I began messing with the whole thing, because the screw was loose..
I’ll have pick up a spare certainly.

2.5 inch lift, 265/75/16s Smittybilt awning. Custom Bed Stereo. Rear View camera. Light bar forward and backwards. Front cooler rack. Leds front and under steps. Garmin off road gps. Garmin one road GPS . Two different units. CB, Roof Rack with custom Tent mounts. Traction Boards. Bliston Shocks.
Bought the truck to be a beach buggy for surf fishing. Turning it into that. Front Light bar under the rods is at the house two side pods are inbound. Have two amber clearance lights that will go at the top back. . That will be installed this coming weekend. Pioneer stereo going in between the speakers with a marine under dash mount. Bran new battery and insulator will go agents the back wall so it will charge while rolling then won't back feed there in the truck finish it up this weekend we have a full batterY for all day at the beach with the stereo. If it gets low crank the truck for about 15 minuets were good to go again. XM and FM back there. The polls are a cool idea i had for the 10x10 tent. They slide out I marked them drilled a hole all a pin, and they attatch to the tent frame on that side. Only have to stake down the two outer sides. We have coolers stereo, grill and my rods all under cover at the beach. Its about finished.

New member to the forum though I've been a Tacoma owner for 10 years. Had a '09, '12 and just picked up my '19 DCLB. I've always had toneau covers but now I'm looking at a cap. I like the looks & head room of the A.R.E. MX but am debating on whether to go with the traditional tailgate opening or the walk thru door.

For those of you that have an MX, were there any particular reasons why you went with one instead of the other?

I've really enjoyed reading about & seeing all the setups. Thanks for your input.

I wonder what the door dimension is? I'm 5'10" also. Now I'm thinking about the width too. Oy.

Here is my new(used shell). Searched for a used grey shell for sometime with no luck. Found this silver 2014 Snugtop Rebel. Guys over at Professional Autobody did a great job color matching. Hard to tell in shadows but looks great! Will work on wiring for brake and interior light, then rack tracks next. IMG_2710.jpgIMG_2740.jpg
