ARE, I’m guessing V series? None of the bells and whistles I really wanted had I bought new, but for $500 and already color matched I can figure out installing my own racks and deal with a physical keyed latch.

Got the ARE camper shell for $300 off craigslist not too long ago, it was white when I got it and paid another $300 to have it painted black. It wasn't perfect condition, but it was perfect for what I needed it for, I got it for a cross-country road trip and it worked great. I loved being able to swing up the side windows.

Your front shell window should unlatch and open inwards into shell letting you clean it and the back window of the cab. Or just whenever you take the shell off. If you don't then spray some soap and pressure wash it should be fine. Honestly I would take the shell off maybe once a year or so and make sure no mold or moss/algae has started growing. I hade to pressure wash my dads off pretty well after 4 years of him not removing it in the Pacific NW weather and it was pretty green In some spots. Also good time to check for cracks, rubber seals and gaskets.

Just had my A.R.E MX installed on Wednesday. Has the windoors. First time I've had a shell instead of a tonneau. Think I'll be liking it.

ARE V series with windoors over some decked drawers. They are all Lexi approved.

Just picked this up last week for $300. ARE DCU originally off a Ford Ranger but I will do some modifications. Dual toolboxes, double barn doors and so much potential. Plan is to get it rigged up for camping. Went around it with a Black TouchUp Paint pen, just to get rid of the white scratches. It turned out great. The truck also rides so much better with the extra weight in the back. Win, Win!

Anyone have an ARE MX or similarly high top shell with a roof rack on the cab?

Or just anyone know of any members with this type of setup?

I've been looking around for a while and I wanna see how it looks when the cab rack gives the illusion of a level top... or the illusion that the ARE MX hump is less noticeable. Love the look of the cab high, not so much the MX. But the MX will serve me well for the amount of sleeping I plan to do back there w/ a platform.

    It's complicated.
I ordered an ARE MX w/ the Yakima rack & crossbars--it's getting installed Thursday.

I can send you a few photos, but I don't understand what you mean by "the cab rack gives the illusion of a level top... or the illusion that the ARE MX hump is less noticeable." What is a cab rack? Can you elaborate on your question?

The ARE shell on my old 1992 Toyota XtraCab was the type with the flat roofline that matched the truck. This configuration looked great, but I did a lot of camping (and sleeping in the bed) and the one thing I constantly wished for was more headroom while sitting up! The MX is aesthetically a bit less pleasing (IMO) because of that hump, but will be much more livable. And I'll be able to load taller items into the bed.

    Function > Fashion.

20190825_071619.jpg 20190824_193949.jpg I put frontrunner tray on my snugtop hi-liner. I think it looks fine and has a longer roofline than my access cab.

PS Rob Daman has the set-up you're asking about.

I have a SnugTop Hi-Liner on my truck and Prinsu CabRack being delivered tomorrow. If all goes to plan, I may have some photos by the weekend.

What I'm trying to say is just a normal roof rack... something like @upTOPoverland makes
    (https://www.uptopoverland.com/collections/tacoma/products/uptop™-bravo-overland-rack)

^^This, combined with an ARE MX (or really any other non cab-high topper). I said cab-rack because I was trying to distinguish between a roof rack and a shell rack. The idea is to lessen the appearance of the increased shell height on the ARE MX by adding a roof rack.

That would be awesome! I've stumbled upon a few photos in the past during my early researching but now I'm struggling haha
