Yeah no doubt they are cool. Just my personal preference that if I was about to start dropping absurd money I'd look into a used sportsmobile or something. They are pretty sweet.

It shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks. But, be aware that the dark matte finish will absorb the sun like damnit. Maybe not to the touch on the outside but on the inside for sure. I'd price a paint job personally since it's black.

Linex actually has insulating properties. The black outside would still get crazy hot to the touch, but the inside should, in theory, be okay. I thought of linexing my shell, but color matched paint was free and linex was about a 500 dollar option so my decision was made for me haha.

Is this the short bed or long bed? Hard to tell from that angle. Also are those custom mounts? Everywhere I've seen they clamp it down with the factory bed rail, of which I've heard might be prone to sliding.

So far I've had my leer installed using the rails with absolutely no problem and I put quite a bit of weight on top of the shell as well. Every now and then I make sure everything is still tight but no problems so far and everything has stayed tight and in place. I was kinda worried at first as well but very happy
Works perfect and I usually don't stay on the flat roads

Told myself I would find a good deal on a nice used shell, and by April ‘19 found this Leer on Craigslist locally for $1200. Solid front window, but was carpeted and in great shape aside from a small 1/2” chip on the corner near the tailgate/door. My son and I installed the tracks which I bought from a local dealer for $159, and finished up my DIY roof rack a few days ago. I actually prefer this look over the color matched ones I’ve seen. Love the contrast, and it matches nicely with the MGM on the OR wheels

Short. You can always tell by the distance between the wheel well and the cab. In a short bed it's inches.

Decent deal. I prefer Mismatch as well, color-matched is too much. I intentionally went with midnight black shell on magnetic grey truck.
    Looks good!

Nice, that’s a good color combo. I have seen silver on an mgm truck which looked good also

Anybody interested in a Leer shell for a DCSB in Cavalry Blue? :D After waiting a couple of months it's *supposed* to arrive next week.

I'm going to go a different direction. Either way I'll post some pics when I get it installed.

How do you like the tent folding off the back? Does it get annoying with being unable to lift the hatch all the way?

Curious as well. I've been thinking about rotating my tent to open this way.

Also FYI: I'm not sure about the shell quoted above, but on my Leer anything mounted to the roof bars is high enough to not interfere with the rear hatch fully opening.

I love it, I have an awning on the drivers side and the tent off the back that gives me additional coverage in bad weather. Also makes it really easy when camping in tight spots in National Forests, etc. As long as i can fit the truck in between the trees I don't have to worry about having room on either side for the tent. The canopy door opens all the way and doesn't touch the bottom of the tent so no issues there...

That is good to know! Thank you. I am getting an ARE CX series and the rear glass looks like it opens high. That and running it on a prinsu rack which is moderately low profile.

Awesome! Thank you! I'm always debating going back to an RTT. I had one for a long time, then I switch to ground tents but we will see.
