I've seen the swing out racks but the price tag on them is up there. I'm sure that bike shreds in BC. I preordered a Commencal Clash which is more than enough for where I'm at, but will be great for trips out west. Thanks for the info!

Can you sit upright on your platform with the shell installed? I'm wondering if the 180 still won't be tall enough with a platform and matress to be able to sit up.

Just switched my RTT setup from a soft shell to this so I could have a shell and still fit a RTT in the garage. It's the alu-cab canopy. I really like it so far, it was really quick and easy to put on with just my wife helping.

I’m looking to sell or swap my shell for a cab high one. It’s a ARE MX DCSB Shell. I’m located in Maryland. Is there a shell swapping thread?

There is one on the buy/sell/trade section. You'll need 50+ posts to qualify to post something for sale or trade.

I have an aging Century topper and on the rear hatch one of the screws began rusting/oxidizing enough to pop the little cover off of it. So I removed the screw and went to Lowes. Found a zinc screw of the same size as well as some little caps, too. Being an aluminum housing you don’t want a stainless screw because it will lead to dissimilar metal corrosion of the screw and housing. I also replaced the pop rivets holding the strut mounting points with m4 bolts and nylon nuts from my RC parts. The hatch would tend to walk side to side if driven with it open so I found some tiny black screws to add stops in the channel it hinges in. Spent some time and removed the foam strips and tacky goo that held it. I gave in and lightly wire wheeled it all off and buffed the surface rust off on the bed rail while I was there. I then measured out and added a 5th and 6th bolt hole above the wheel wells. Acid primed and hit a light coat of proper Duplicolor green. Then laid down a 3/8” bead of Liquid Nails and bolted her back down.

3x 7/16” per side now with a bead of Liquid Nails. Need to clean up that wiring next time, too.

    Shell bros!

I originally bought my truck with the soft top shell, and rocked it for a while as i saved up money and dialed in what my needs were. I pulled the trigger last summer on a ARE MX with dual vented windoors, carpeted interior and lighting, roof racks and so on. got all the bells and whistles since i reckon to have it or the life of the truck.. now i figure out a bike rack situation that allows the rear glass and tailgate to be functional without removing the bikes and hitch.. ideas?

couple options that I can think of:

    1. Mount bikes on roof of canopy
    2. Swing out bike hitch (pretty spendy though)

I basically have the same truck/canopy as you, I can just crack open the back window with a bike mounted in the “closer to the truck” position. That’s where the windoors are really nice

    Stock for now.. maybe

The vented ARE windoors look so much better than the LEER ones. I only had a LEER dealer near me so went with it. I definitely needed vents and was thinking about vented windoors but decided just for the vents (maybe because the Leer ones burn my eyes) The Leer vented windoors look so bad. Happy with what I got for sure. Enjoy yours as well

I was able to haul my mtb's on the inside after removing the front wheel. Rolled it in backwards, rear tire first, and then clamped the forks to a fork clamp I had mounted on a 1x6 near the tailgate. Fit two bikes inside like that with gear with a ARE MX on my previous 06 Tacoma.

sorry no pics of bikes in the back.. but do have a pic of the truck

I have a Kuat rack. When I’m only carrying one bike, I can open the rear glass. The rack pivots down to allow the tailgate to open. I like it, but would probably take a hard look at a 1Up if I were going to get another...

Thanks. I ended up going with this model partly because of that. It breaks up the colors a bit
