Actually no! This was a brand new shell. I was able to customize it the way I wanted. Got some options like the tilt down front window, single t handle and a headliner. Has a new style LED light in the back too.

ARE has them on racks, fiberglass shells only, without any windows, headliners or the rear door attached.

Once they get an order, they install customer selected options and spray the color to the fiberglass shell prior to delivery to a local dealer.

They don't just run one shell through the mold/fiberglass process at a time when someone orders one. They do batches of shells for specific models and shelve them for the incoming orders to be processed with the options/color selected by the customer.

Can we get another update/more pictures? I just ordered basically the same cap yesterday for my new ‘21 cement DCLB TRD Off Road. Curious about the Outdoorsman windows mostly.

    Thanks!

Ended up finding an ARE CX series in nautical blue which is pretty close to my indigo ink. I swapped out the windoors and then sold the white shell with slider windows. Ended up making money on the deal and didn’t have to pay for a paint job. Wrapped the windoors black to finish it off. 1782152C-4B6C-446D-BB52-EB41AF5700D0.jpg2E876B6D-B8F1-4458-B313-190D6A4CE230.jpg

I think that may be the exact same cap is mine. When I got mine I thought it was a CX Series but it's actually a discontinued X Series. This is the first one I've seen "in the wild" since I got mine. They are the same as the CX except the X has that frameless rear window (that doesn't open far enough in my opinion). I had a hell of time both getting the rear window re-sealed as well as finding the correct rear struts that didn't push the top part of the window out. Probably why it's discontinued.

As FYI in case you ever need the rear seal or gas lifts, ARE can get the seal but they do not have the correct lifts anymore. The only ones I could find that worked were these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PYKFCY?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details . They must be 12.2 inches extend, less than 8" compressed, and no more than 40lbs per strut. That combo was surprisingly hard to find becasue somee brands don't give the correct compressed measurement.

Yes I definitely miss the framed rear door sometimes because of how far it opened up. Luckily mine doesn’t leak at all and the struts are in good shape but I will save those for when the time comes! Thank you

What do you want to know/see? Curious what they said the wait time would be?
I absolutely love the outdoorsmen windows and if you don't get them, it would be a mistake, truly. With the amount you're already spending, the extra 350 is well worth it.

I would call whoever you ordered the cap from and add the windoors. Well worth the money! Expensive and a royal pain to add them after the cap is built.

Picked up a used shell recently and put it on ourselves. What do you guys/gals think of the placement? Should I move it closer? Thanks!

Based on how it looks by the tailgate, you could probably slide it towards the cab a few more inches. I'm not sure though, that could be how they normally fit for third gens. When I need to adjust mine I squat in my truck bed and awkwardly lift it up a little with my back.

I would move it forward 1/4 to 1/2 inches closer to the cab. Reason being: when it rains, the water runs down along the camper between the camper and the cab. If there is a lip, it will collect water and funnel it into your truck bed.

The fit at the tailgate is what is critical, not to tight ,not to loose. Get inside and take a look, that’s how I adjust mine.

When mine was being put on, the guy told me you want the body lines of the bed and the shell to flow. It looks like the shell is a little too far back. The contour of the front edge should continue down the contour of the bedside. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks everyone. I put it on my back and moved it forward lol! One side sits a little closer then the other now but I’ll adjust that another day. I think it looks much better!

Quicksand DCLB with an ARE CX w/ sportsman doors. Digging it, but I may trade it out for a higher rise. I do like camping in the back on occasion and it feels a bit claustrophobic
