Finally got my ARE Classic installed. It took about 9-10 weeks to come in. These are just some quicky shots I did at the installers. I'll try and get some more detailed shots later. Has carpeted interior, sliding side windows, 2 drop-down hangers, single interior light, front window slides and folds in for cleaning, and roof rack tracks.

Was that Tacoma specific? Every used one I see they just give some measurements with no specific vehicle and I’m afraid they won’t fit right.

Yes, this was made for a third gen Tacoma. As long as the length and width are good you’ll be fine.

Any chance someone in this thread has ever mounted a storage box(like a roam box or similar) to cross bars on their canopy?
I have tracks on my canopy and don’t want to spend another grand on a full rack. Was considering getting cross bars and putting a storage box on them as needed for quick access on camping trips. Thanks.

I use a cargo box in the winter for skis. I ran a Yakima rocket box on my leer, using Thule tracks and rack and I run a Thule motion XT alpine on my GFC.

Thanks! If I had more space, I’d consider that route. Hoping I can get a box that I can toss in by bed for normal day to day driving and then pop it up top and keep recovery gear there when the family goes camping.

Looking hard for a used mid rise shell with windoors on the west coast. For those with windoors... If I go with a new topper I'm thinking of getting them on the driver side only and leaving the passenger side a full length slider window for more ventilation for when the dog is back there. Or is the sliders on the windoors plenty? They look smaller

People who put track on their shell, happy or unhappy with that? I’m considering so we can take 4 people and a dog on a ski trip. Already have a roof box for gear on the minivan but I’d rather have the truck in the snow.

    Sadly, not much.
I have tracks + Yakima bars and use a Thule box for camping. Very happy. I like the ability to move around for different loads. And the ability to store things in box, means room for sleeping platform + dogs and kids in back!

You can also use gutter plates, if you prefer to drill holes in the side of your cap. A little less adjustable in terms of where your crossbars end up.

    You guys have nice setups!

I mainly was thinking tracks b/c 99% of the time I'll have my roof clear, it'd just be very specific road trips where I'd want the box up top for extra gear. I could probably get by with the OEM roof racks but sort of like having the cab roof untouched and a small leak in the shell is better than in the cab.

These 5' beds don't hold much stuff.

How water tight are the cargo boxes?

We had tracks installed on the wife's minivan, and run 2 or 3 Yakima crossbars, depending on the load (canoes in summer, thule box in winter). The crossbars and 'feet' are really easy to remove/install. Everything is a little flexy, though. I think the long curved aero bars are flexible, and the thin metal in the roof flexes, too. Still solid enough to put nice canoes up there and not worry at all.
