I' m a week away from ordering a MX for my 09 dc. Please post a pic when you get yours. I can't find a decent pic of the MX on a dc anywhere. I like the MX for the extra headroom inside or just sitting on the tail gate. What did you do with your plastic bed rails, install over or remove? I'm leaning towards having mine removed for a better seal, but not sure. Thanks

The side of the cap covers the bed rails. The height of the rear opening is 38", inside height to the insulation inside is 42". So far with the rain and I sprayed it with hose it hasn't gotten wet inside.
I will take some pic's and post them this weekend.

I bought a shell the day I bought my truck from dealer and this is what I ended up with shell 3/4 inch lower than truck cab.[IMG] I have sent the sales manager a email waiting on reply

Thank you for sharing your pics. I went ahead yesterday morning and ordered the MX for my truck and now I'm really glad I did. I think it looks great.

Here's my new Leer 100XR. It has carpet headliner, Thule racks, sliding/removable front window and two sliding windows. I tried to order one sliding side window and one full side window that would open out but Leer said they don't have fold out windows for a short bed :(. Otherwise, everything looks good.

    1. does A.R.E. make fold out windows for a short bed?
    2. How durable are Bedrugs? sometimes i store metal boxes or have to transport other jagged-type corner stuff. but i don't want stuff sliding around in there.
    3. what in the world is a side door on a shell/cap? none of the above pics show this(?)
    4. am i wasting money with the toyota factory snugtop?

Slide door... slide. I have a bedrug on mine and things there does not move that much... but my intended application always has been to use it a tent on remote places when camping, fishing or hunting alone or with my son... if the whole family is coming then we use the RV.

A side door in Leer's terms was called a Windoor. There's a couple of toppers in this thread with the same design. It's not a door, but the window is usually one piece of glass and the whole thing flips up allowing larger access than the standard slide windows that usually have no access due to the screens in place.

When I inquired about a 'Windoor' with ARE, I initially got the same story that this wasn't an option for the short bed. My local dealer did come up with an alternative and I could have ordered the base ARE model and they could custom a 'windoor' for me with a good chunk of added cost which hadn't included any other options yet either like a headliner, etc. FWIW, I did like the Z series style a lot.

Snugtop is a great brand, but every local dealer I talked with couldn't bring the price down where I wanted it for the Snugtops.

#1 Yes, I was going to get the windoors w/sliders, but the slider was so small soI didn't get them.

#2 So far so good. screw gun box has not moved, had 2 floor jacks they didn't move, only got the rug full of rust from the wheels. Sprayed some simple green on them and wiped with a towel and they were gone.

    #3 Look back at post 68, 70 and 87

#4 Post #93. FUN4YOU got a cap from his dealer, it is shorter that the cab. I would make sure that it looks and fits right. I can't believe they would install a cap that was so short.

I am looking a leer 100XR for a 4 door short bed. I have a qoute of $1,199 (through the end of March they are offering a free headliner) base model. This includes install, paint, etc. Is this a good price?

Sounds good to me. Base model for me was around $1300 I think. My order had some complications on the dealer side, but all was rectified and they threw in a free headliner. The deal going now, Leer is offering, with a free headliner is nice. If you can swing it, I don't think you'll regret upgrading on the front window for one that folds out, whether it slides or is a full window. Overall I'm very satisfied with the cap so far. We got a foot of snow yesterday in blizzard conditions with the wet sloppy stuff and no issues with leaks.

I got the Thule Tracker II system. It was I think about a $250 upgrade. That included the tracks mounted to the roof, the feet for the tracks, the towers, bars and locks.

The towers pop off with a click of a button so you can remove the bars and towers in about the time it takes you to walk from one side of the truck to another. The feet that mount into the tracks come with end caps so crud does get in them or another few minutes with an alan wrench and those come off too.

I think I could have bought the tracks only as well. If you already have some Thule pieces (Yakima probably works too) or want to shop around for cheaper prices on Craigslist, etc., that can be an option. I mostly wasn't interested in screwing holes in the roof of a brand new topper so it was nice to have the manufacturer put the track in.

    Thanks,

I just got off the phone with them and the qouted me out the door (tax, install, etc.) with a fold out sliding window upgrade for $1379.23 (Leer100XR). That also includes the free promotional upgrade of the headliner. I think I am going to order it. I have not been able to find one any cheaper.
