I have a SNug Top, and I was wanting to build some storage so i can get some junk off the bottom of the bed.

    1. Has anyone built anything like that, either a shelf or a carpeted box?

    2. The roof of my snug top has a thicker portion that like 4' x 5.5' (feet) Can I screw into there to secure a box, or something similar?

    Thanks heres my topper:

Anyone have a pic of the Snug Top Hi Liner "Sport", the new Hi Liner? I'm leaning towards this model right now, but the ARE MX is another possibility since pricing is probably better.

I would recommend to get ARE. I have Snugtop Super Sport(top of the line) and my friend has ARE Z series(top of the line as well) and imo ARE's build is much much better. My next top will be ARE.

EDIT: The Hi-Liner Sport is not available with a DCSB. In snugtop lingo, they call the 5' bed a "V-Bed" and not a "Short Bed." Also checked with Snugtop corporate and they have no plans to develop a mid-rise cap for the "V-bed" Tacoma. :(

I'm in between the Leer 180 and the A.R.E. MX caps

Someone on the forum had a post (might even be this thread for all I know) that was showing off a shell that you'd be looking for. The only problem is that it was for a Hilux and appeared to be a foreign ad... maybe Euopean, I'm guessing. These were pretty cool looking shells; they looked "smooth", making the truck look like an SUV. I'll try to find the thread and repost here, but in the meantime try searching...it wasn't that long ago...maybe a month.

I've been wanting to buy an old shell and make something like this, but was hoping someone would build one.
There's something similar for a full size Chevy, but I don't know if it's still being made.
If ARB starts selling Sprints here, I'd buy one.

I java question about your best top? Is there wind noise on the highway? Any extra gas consumption? I am looking for something like this and kinda like this setup. Should I or just save my money for a hard top?

There are pros and cons to those.

    Pros:
    1. easy to take off
    2. half the price of a had top
    3. can be folded down at a store when you realize something is too big to go under it

    Cons:
    1. no security. can't lock it it, and the plastic/fabric could be cut
    2. the clear plastic will shatter when cold (mine did around -2F)
    3. the plastic pieces wear out
    4. not a perfect fit like hard toppers (due to fabric stretching and plastic guides)

It's like having a tent on the back. It's good for keeping things dry, no flapping or wind noise, and 1 person can fold it back or take it off. However, it's still a tent. There's no way to lock it to secure gear, and the plastic bits wear out after a while so it doesn't fit like it should. I personally want to replace mine with a fiberglass shell.

I get about 18 MPG with mine on. I've had it on several years, and that's about what I was getting before it went on.

An ATC shell- $400 off craigslist. Gave the guy an additional $50 to deliver to my brothers house until I could pick it up. Later found the same model for $300 (Doh!) that was located closer but not sure if it had a carpeted interior like this one. This one has a fold down front window which is also nice

Everything works (locks, windows, etc.) I'm going to paint it myself with the duplicolor hopefully this weekend.

This may have been addressed in a previous post, and if so I will hunt forit, but wanted to check before I went through 50 pages of postings.

Has anyone tested toppers for similar sized pickups on their Tacoma? I knowthe cab angle for small pickups are all different but the bed dimensions aregenerally similar. I am in the market for a topper but would really like to go theused route but it seems that taco owners are holding out…
