Just bought my truck. I'm looking for the right shell.

Checked out Leer and ARE yesterday. Leaning toward a Leer 122. I'm about 6' 2" and want to be able to sit up on my sleeping platform.

This afternoon I'm planning to go look at SnugTop and Carryboy Brand. I'm intrigued by this model called Cityboy 840.

Not sure if they even make them for Tacos and have even less idea of what they go for. Anyone have any experience/feedback on these?

Anyway, back to your post Warren:

I've been debating about what to do about the platform. The rails built into the bedliner are so low. I was thinking about putting together some sort of extension to get enough height to get my 5 gal Coleman water jugs (approx 10" tall) and a full size cooler under the platform so I don't have to shift gear to sleep when road camping but I also want the platform as low as possible for extended stays or single nights at the trailhead on backpacking trips.

I really like your idea of making the platform height adjustable.

    Two questions:

    1) Where did you get the adjustable jack stands?

    2) Is that a Coleman Party Stacker cooler I see under your platform at low height? If so, how to you like it?

It was the only low-profile cooler I could find on the web and I was thinking it would be good when I'm solo or using the truck as a backpacking base-camp.

Found out the Carryboy that I was interested in isn't available in the US. It's a Thai brand and the local guy only has the low tops.:annoyed:

Ordered a Leer 122 with what they call the Traveler's Pack:
Thule Rack w/ Locks & Gear Bag
    3 12v Outlet
    Headliner
    Auto Switch for Dome Light
    Clothes Hanger

    and the drop down slider.

Not sure about the clothes hanger and auto switch but I was going to get the other stuff anyway and even without the last two items the package was less expensive.

Should be here in about three weeks. Gotta get my sleeping platform ready so I can head up to the Sierras the weekend after I get it installed.

    Just got my topper ordered!
    Snugtop Rebel with:
    Vented windoors
    Folding front window
    Roof rack tracks
    Carpet
    Keyless remote entry

Out the door for $2250. AA Toppers in Denver is having a big sale this weekend so I think I got a good deal.

Question on roof racks. What's everyone prefer? The salesman said most people like the Thule towers/bars vs the Yakima. They only sell the Yakima so I just had them only install the tracks for now.
I'm going to put some sort of box up top for boards/skis since they're a little awkward in the short bed. I'll get a bike rack at some point too, but plan on putting my fork mount bar on the bed and keep the bikes under the topper for the most part.

Pretty excited. It always sucks going into the mountains with a bunch of expensive gear and then worrying about it when we stop for dinner/beer on the way home.

That is a good deal. I paid $2250otd for mine. Its just like yours, minus the roof rack tracks and keyless entry. Well done. I'm jealous

Leer 180. Made sure to get the sliding front glass removable this time. Decided to wait on a rack for now. Might go with a cab rack (more surface area) like a Baja rack or similar.

What color is that? Looks like a matte black. Have same color truck, looking to buy a silver one off craigslist. Might buy and throw on some black spray paint to make due. Thought about some of that 3M wrap stuff too. Trying to avoid a $300 paint job at the body shop. Anythings better than the silver it is now.

Just got back from a couple of nights in Yosemite. I've got a Leer 122.

Went to the local fabric store and bought a couple of yards of black fleece (about Polartech 100 weight but not trademarked) for about $10.

Cut to size and glued some Velcro strips (hook-side) to the corners. Velcro holds very nicely to my carpet liner.

The fleece also did a nice job of insulating (got down in the high 20s - low 30s). Probably look for a lighter weight micro fabric for summer to block light but not insulate so much.

    I'll post pics later.

well everybody, this week or next. My A.R.E. CX will be installed on to my pickup. I purchased for about $1600.00. Where I went, I gotten the Free Headliner (sweet), Standard side windows, Fishing rod holders, single locking window, and Font tilt slider window. I wanted to get the roof racks, but I need to stay on my budget. I'll be posting pics soon.

If your in California, Click here. This is the dealer I went too.
