I spoke with both a local Yakima installer and a Snug Top rep today and they both told me that the tracks should be outside of the reinforced section to assure the bolts don't crush the reinforcing.

edit: *if you have room to mount them outside of the reinforcing. The camper above looks like it doesn't have the space to do it.

If you think about it, it makes sense. You essentially have a load pushing down on the roof and making it want to cave in. The reinforcing section is just for added strength in the middle resisting this cave in. It doesn't actually take the load, it's just stiffens the top. I don't think anyone should go running to their dealer and yell at them for putting it through the reinforcing, just passing along what a few people in the business have said.

Does anyone have a pic of the inside of an ARE MX shell with a headliner? I'm curious about the strip of glass on the front part that rises up, is it a skylight, does it actually let light in, if not what purpose does it serve? It kinda looks like a great place for leaks. Still on the fence about which one to get.

Do the crossbars on that rail system accept T-slot nuts ?

One upon a time it was sold as a skylight, that is no more. It is decorative only.

So I've been looking for the last few days and can't seem to find an answer.

What size tracks are you guys putting on your DCSB shells? I went up and measured and I see 48" or so. Problem is Yakima only sells 42" or 54" tracks. With the holes pre-drilled, I wouldn't want to cut it down to length and not have a hole on the outsides of the tracks, making one side stick up. It will be supporting a RTT, so the largest footprint I can get would be nice.

What did you guys do? 54 and cut it, or 42 and have it short?

Thanks for the answer crom! That kinda makes me not as interested in ARE MX. Just looks like a good place for leaks to start or something else to break on low hanging limb. Anyone have this happen? From what I've seen on here, ARE seems like good stuff, followed by the Leer 180. I haven't seen many people with Century high c shells. Probably pulling the trigger on one of the three next week. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The vista glass is actually plexiglass so it will not break, no leaks or anything. I really like my ARE MX shell. I wanted the additional storage space, and it was between Leer 180 and ARE. The ARE had a few more features that I liked and it was like 1/2" taller inside. Honestly, it's a crap shoot on the quality you'll get from any vendor. My fiberglass and paint is virtually flawless, very pleased. The glass windows are all out sourced from some glass vendor and sometimes the quality is suspect, but you have a year to get anything straightened out with the dealer/factory.

I've posted a number of pics in this thread if you search you should find them.

Truck is looking really sharp with that Leer topper on it!

Does your platform sag at all when laying on it?
