Just bought a parts truck and liked how this looked with the swapped fuel door and might want to try the hood and doors too. Can't tell if it will look awful though. Looking for inspiration.Truck Fuel Door Swap.jpg

Will do the quarter panels too if I do. So it will have a silver bed and cab. It may affect the resale value, but it will be easier to find if ever stolen.

I think a GPS tracker would be a better idea haha

Just get a cheap old cell phone that has GPS and keep it under the back seat, keep it charged every now and then. If your truck gets stolen, give that phone's # to the cops and they'll be able to track it down

That's a good idea. I am going to install a kill switch which may also help a bit.

eh, not so much the theft factor, not many people round here can drive an MT anyways lol
more about returning to the discontinued color of truck i lost when I traded in for this one (black was only color on lot with MT)

Kill switch is always a good idea, I toyed with that idea for awhile. I have an alarm in my truck that disengages the starter if the alarm isn't deactivated properly before getting in, so I just rely on that. Haven't had any issues yet even living in Los Angeles (knock on wood). But a kill switch is an easy and effective method.

I also have the anti-millennial theft device (manual transmission) which might deter some people.

What is your alarm setup called or is it custom?

It's just a standard KARR alarm that dealerships use, when I bought my truck I had them keep it on there (for WAYYY too much money, got ripped off) but it does it's job

I bought into their fear based sales pitch showing me the stats of how many older Tacomas get stolen in SoCal every year, but I should've just gotten something aftermarket and saved a lot of money. Live n learn

@oliverbookboots Man, good job finding a parts truck.

First thing I'd be doing is pulling off those front spindles/manual hubs, front diff, transfer case with transmission, and drive shaft and sending it out to Kwikvette here :crapstorm:

damn I didn't notice the manual hubs, that's a score indeed. I'd love to swap manual hubs over onto my truck.

I just like the idea of it being all manual/mechanical, and not relying on the reliability of electronics

That's why you engage the hubs before the bad weather hits haha. You can have the hubs engaged but not be in 4wd if I understand them correctly, just keeps the CVs spinning ya?

I like the idea of it being all mechanical and not having to rely on electronics/actuators

I love that color from back in the day. That purple and turquoise blue were my favorites.
