I have am Innovate LM-2 portable wideband, so I only hook it up when I am tuning. This also includes an OBD2 interface to log along with AFR. I also have a separate bluetooth OBD2 scanner that I occasionally use with Torque on my phone.

Ok, great, if your running a supercharger it’s wise tho to have fixed gauge for your AFR and a Scanguage to be able to monitor your engine.
Knowing your fuel trims will tell you ALOT about the health of your fuel system that’s on your scanguage.
Have you checked or Do you your short and long trim numbers

While I agree I probably should have some installed gauges for that, my M/O for this truck was to not make it something I had to constantly monitor a bunch of gauges like a race car--I only have boost. If those are truly required for this setup, then I may have just gone too deep with mods on it.

When I was street tuning, I was mostly just looking at AFR, boost, rpm, and timing adv. I actually have not checked those specific measures LOL. This is why I apparently need help. It's worth mentioning that I finally heard back from RMCR Performance and they are willing to tune the truck (supposedly they helped fine tune the 7th injector product for URD way back in the day?), so I may do that as well for piece of mind.

Ok, we can meet tomorrow and talk more,
But regardless what car you’re driving if your running a supercharger or turbo you should know
    this info.
Just like a regular car if it’s just got idiot lights you only know something is wrong when the light comes on,
The more boost the more info you should know to protect your motor.
But it’s your choice, you don’t need a bunch of gauges if u don’t want tho,
Gauges just let you know if something is off

RMCR Performance, Mike, the owner knows me well and did my snow install and AFR Gauge.
He will put it on the Dyno when fine tuning it too. So you will know your rear wheel hp, To be honest I don’t know what power the 7th injector
puts out at this altitude maybe around 225 -245 Im guessing

Maybe a month or two ago. I've bought a new CAS just for peace of mind as well (pending install).

Slow day at work today, so I made my nozzle adapter. Replaces this baffled connector for the valve cover vent return to the intake pipe.

I wanted to counterbore the top but not much room with this low profile 90degree nozzle holder my kit came from. Might get it assembled in the truck this weekend and test it. Hopefully there isn't too much interference with the spray pattern

Thanks for the feedback on the crank sensor earlier! I only experience Ping on the highway coming up to a hill, right around 0psi to almost 2psi of boost if I dont make the truck kick down to a lower gear. My AFRs are here are around 14.3-14.5 and still in closed loop. I have done all the recommended mods new 190 fuel pump, 7th injector, new fuel filter, 170 thermostat, etc... but have not had my injectors professionally cleaned. There is no facility where I live. So I ran LOTS of injector cleaner through the truck over multiple tanks of gas. I recently installed a new crank pulley( rubber was beginning to seperate) and this cured my rough idle issues. I had cleaned the MAF, upon SC installation, but may invest in a new one.

We only get 89- 91 octane fuel where I live. So if I fill up with 91 octane and use the lucas oil octane booster (add a 30 points@$13 per fill up) then my truck will not ping under normal highway driving conditions even at 0-2psi top gear on highway. I've tried adding g more fuel in this range with 7th injector but the truck just pulls out fuel due to closed loop.

Given the fact the octane booster "fixes" my ping issue would methanol be good for a more permanent fix? Or is misting at 0psi highly frowned upon?

My truck pulls hard at wot, but severely dies off mid range due to so much timing being pulled to compensate for normal highway driving ping.

    Appreciate any feedback and suggestions!

You HAVE to have 91 octane to run the supercharger,

Yes you could use the methonal and start spraying at one pound of boost if u wanted too tho and that would fix the ping but you would be refilling a lot.

If you want too you can play around with making you own mixture and go up
    in nozzle size too.
I set my spray at 3 pounds and AFR drops immediately to 11 from 14.8 even when
in closed loop, the computer try’s to keep it at 14.8 but the spray you can setup to
over power the computer AFR ratio to 11,
So you could setup your system to be at AFR 11 all the time if your spraying at one pound up even in closed loop

Pretty much the same issue I have. As a test/temp fix I have been occasionally mixing a few gallons of E85 for a ~E30 mix and I do notice the truck runs noticeably better. I assume you don't have access to E85 at all?

Was great meeting Dave today, we meet up and I showed him my methonal setup and took a spirited drive up into the beginning steep mountain section.
One thing again is if your running a new supercharger setup you want your fuel system working 100 percent.
There is a good chance you DONT need methonal or the 7th injector setup if these items are done.

    Which will include
    1) new fuel pump
    2) fuel injectors cleaned and filters replaced
3)MAF sensor cleaning BOTH wires need cleaning not just the bulb
    4) new fuel filter
    5) inspect for carbon issues in the valves when the supercharger is off.

You can get a scanguage to monitor your fuel trims which should be at zero or plus or minus 10 max.

A check engine light will come on when your fuel rims hits 25 as a lean code.

If the fuel trims are higher, that means there’s an issue of one of the above items that’s not working at 100 percent usually.

If your trims are out of wack the methonal can be used to cover the spread needed and for a smaller
    pulley and higher boost numbers

It was pretty impressive to show Dave the output supercharger temps (I have a dual gauge installed for the input and output temperatures for the supercharger) coming out of the supercharger at 10 pounds
of boost WOT with the methonal spraying and the temperatures only increased maybe 10 degrees.
Normally if not methonal injectored this number would be an increase of at least 75-100 degrees.
Cooler intake air means better timing numbers more dense air

My sweet spot for power is AFR 11,

Today it was bogging down because the AFR was at 10,

I had just cleaned the MAF and doing this changed my AFR numbers
So I have to do some fine tuning to get it back into check at AFR 11

Here is the Volvo mod I did for the MAF for Dave truck as it’s a 1998,
    Gates supercharger belt number

Motor west for your injectors to be cleaned and serviced and new filters on them in California for 125.00

No, I dont have access to E85. For now i can drive around the problem, or keep pouring in the Lucas octane booster. But it bothers me, the setup just doesn't work right. That and the mid range dropping out when i know it should pull harder!
I dont drive it like a race car, quite the opposite, all the more reason it bothers me to make it drop back a gear on the highway when I know the truck would easily pull the grade without needing a lower gear.
I haven't sourced methanol yet either, so I'm guessing i should figure out the cost of methanol or boost juice to my door. Especially since i would be injecting at such low boost levels.

What is the general thoughts here, would i be better off sending my injectors away for a proper cleaning (maybe injection cleaner isnt good enough), buy a new MAF (even though I've cleaned mine several times and throws no codes), install new crank sensor as indicated earlier (mines been cleaned recently when doing timing belt with no improvement), keep putting in octane booster, or bite the bullet and install another large upgrade item (methanol injection) hoping it will solve my drivability issues.

Knowing that I then have to keep the methanol tank full!

Check your fuel trims short and long, should be at zero for short trims if everything is perfect. Plus or munis 10 max.
    But you need 91 octane

My sweet spot for power is AFR at 11,

    What are AFR numbers?

Appreciated John's time and advice, good guy! Thanks John!

Coming out of our discussion here is what I am planning on doing:
    • Volvo MAF mod (already bought the MAF and tube)
    • Fuel injector reconditioning
    • Get a Scangauge (I wish 98s had tranny temp in OBD as well, would be even better!), it seems like my bluetooh one is just a bit laggy which makes it hard to understand.
After all this, I am planning to let a professional dyno tune it, rather than my so-so street tunes. It is pretty difficult to tune with an auto tranny as well and being in Johns taco made me really want a 5spd--if I had driven a 5spd prior to purchasing my auto truck, I probably would have opted for it.

Longer term, I might end up replacing the URD pulley with a PulleyBoys and belt from OEM to Gates, but since these are working right now, I'm not terribly worried.

Overall, John seemed to think that I don't really need water/meth for my goals, which is actually comforting as I was worried about having to add yet another sub-system. The big takeaway is that it can be difficult to figure out where or if you have an real root issue when you have something like meth or 7th injector as they can make up for a weak fuel system and make you think its all good, but when you are talking about details like OEM-like drivability at part/transient-throttle, it can make a difference (via the fuel trims especially) to have your base parts working at 100%.

Thanks again for the feedback, I will take a look to see if there is a write up on how to clean the injectors/ and the injector filters then go from there.

I will also check out my fuel trims and report back with the status, but when I initially installed and tried.tuning the.set.up the fuel trims were within spec of what was called for in Gadgets write up.

I'm a few weeks away from getting back home, though so I will report then!

Motor west in California was 125.00 and 3 day turnaround around, with new washers and seals, just a heads up.

My OCD made this take way too long. But the harness looks good. And I can confidently un-install this kit in under 1hour if needed.

Here is an inexpensive high volume inline filter you probably should consider for your methanol in-between the pump and tank

Just installed it. 2 minutes to do.
    25.00 AEM METHONAL FILTER

I've been having my nozzle and nozzle filter getting plugged up about every 25k.

This should take care of that and looks super easy to clean
