The truck thrives on country roads, getting about 20mpg around 50mph. Gas mileage is not good on the interstate for me, going 75-80mph probably around 14mpg. My tranny doesn't search for gears, it just sits in 5th

Would you guys recommend 16, or 17in rims for 35s? I’d like to do 16s/35s... but it might limit my tire options, right?

The next step after 35s is 37s and that's hard to find on 16s so get 17s now and you can keep your wheels for the next set

I wouldn’t do 37s, maybe if I had a Jeep but not on the taco..

I hate that feeling! Driving on the freeway then all of a sudden it drops to fourth for a bit until it finds the gear and goes to fifth. But when there’s a slight incline it drops again. So over it, can’t wait to regear.

Question??? Should 4.88’s suffice for 35’s? What do you guys think about 5.29’s and 35’s??

I've heard that you 2nd gen guys are fine with 4.88s but us 3rd gens should get 5.29s

You have a second gen? I have multiple friends on 456s on 35s and say they feel good. The 3rd gens are a whole different issue. I would upgrade to 529s if I had the money to do it all over

Are 4.88 still not enough for 35"?

So it completely depends where you live. If you live in the flat desert terrain, I would say 488s are fine. If you live in the mountains or in higher elevations I would say 529s. I live in Montana now but lived out east when I had my 488s done. They were fine there but now it's not so fun.

Update from the original post and got my Cooper STT Pros installed. Unfortunately these aren't a true "35" but downsized to the 315s since they dont make 35x12.5r17s. Pretty much a 35 though.

I am, but not yet. There’s a lot of supporting mods I need to be able to fit them.

So I know you need a more aggressive CMC when running 35's over 285's. What company CMC plates are you guys getting to fit 35's? Or are you guys just making them yourselves? I can make some but it would just be easier to trace the plate and cut out the section.

doesnt really matter what cmc plates you use. what matters is how deep you cut into the cab mount. cut as much as possible.. ideally to the edge of the mount.. then weld on that plate and start chopping the shit out of the fender well as much as you need to clear the tires. lets not forget the punch welds... its really a guessing game because every truck is a little different with every setup. so for example my cmc will be different from yours because i'm running Fox 2.5 RR with DSC and it with Dirt King UCA's. I maxed out my caster and i will be running a steel front bumper most likely with CBI. providing me with maximum clearance to the rear of my tires.
