Sounds like you missed it. A lot of times the wire tends to snake back up or into the dash when unplugged. The tip should be as thick as a pencil black wire

well got the radio working. The wire/plug was undone.

now just nee to do the bypass i just remembered i never did.

 

For those of you who have installed aftermarket radios with the Sirius XM Tuner and Antenna......

Where have you mounted the antenna? (I do not have the shark fin on my Tacoma, nor do I want to drill a hole to mount it there.) Is there another location where it can be mounted, work good and be hidden?

i have sen some units come with an antenna and I have seen people run the wire out where the 3rd brake light is. did not have to drill a hole or anything. they ran it between the head liner and the roof and out where the 3rd brake light is.

 

That's an interesting idea, wonder how hard it is to get the wire through the head liner?

 

I ran mine through the headliner, was not to fun but got it done. Ran the wire up the A pillar and then all the way back. I was to afraid of creasing my headliner to take it all the way out so that was a pain also. I remember lots of swearing but couldnt find anything better at the time.

Clarion VX400. I bought it at the end of 2008. Then I sold my truck. I have since got a 2003 dcab TRD and installed it in that. Bluetooth works great! I wish It showed album art though.

CarPC (or TruckPC, which ever you want to call it, lol) has been on my list of mods for a while now. The Pioneer x940BT is serving me well, but I'm a total computer nerd and eventually I WILL have a PC in my truck, lol.

Maybe soon actually; finally sold my old 20"s along with some other random stuff I've had sitting around, so I might just have some extra cash to try and put one together

nice! i actually have mine disconnected because i fried the HD(stupid me) and i haven't gotten around to doing a new install. i'll be taking it out though and putting a tablet in place of it soon.

 

I thought about that option too, but I just feel there's a lot more I could build into the PC that the tablet would lack, like a blueray player, real time OBDII diagnostics (granted I can do that with my Android phone and the Torque app with my bluetooth OBDII adapter, but there's a little lag and I'm sure a hardwired connection would be much smoother), plus the ability to plug in and use any peripheral device or MP3 player on the fly, and store TONS of music and movies on a SSD and not be limited to a 32gb internal memory or memory expansion card.

I just see so many options with a fully functional PC

 

I'm torn between a car PC with Linux or an Android tablet. I suppose I could find a way to integrate both.

 

I had an aftermarket Calrion system and my Sirius dock antenna professionally installed in the wifes vehicle and they put both antennas inside the cab on the dash, in the middle, closest to the windshield. We have never had a reception issue with the GPS or the Sirius.

For my Tacoma, I ran it out the drivers side door, up under the hood area, tucked it under the windshield seal, and used the magnet to hold it to the roof. Never had an issue with it either.

I question how well it will work under the dash because it is magnetized and relies on the metal of the car to help increase reception. (That's my understanding of it anyway.) Although your wife's vehicle is ok with it??...Perhaps you live in a city or near a city with repeaters?

MTX amp crapped out on me now using a sound ordinance that I really like - image dynamics chameleon components in the front and a pioneer double din that's ok, wish I could get something with rhapsody on it though so I didn't have to hook my phone up to it...

...now I just need an alarm system better than stock...

2 JL audio CP108 micro subs with easy connect plugs for easy removal

 

eh, after having a carpc(now a truck) for the last 6 years or so i'm ready for a change. the new thing to do seems to be tablets. then you run into storage issues. yeah you're limited to internal memory but you can always use an external drive, or SD card and that fixes that. and the lag in the bluetooth obdII isn't nearly enough for you to notice it if you don't go cheap on your connector. and i've never had the want for a bluray player. heck i haven't even needed a DVD drive in this truck pc. all my movies are already in AVI files and i had everything to sync up with my laptop when i was home.
honestly i was against the tablets for the longest time but now it's the most practical solution.

linux on a car pc is NOT the way to go. trust me man, i'm an avid linux user and geek all in the same but the front end support just isn't there. the handful that are out there are way too buggy and the developers lose interest shortly after releases.
