It's actually pretty good. My front passenger door speaker I have unplugged though because I blew it with the factory head unit and haven't gotten around to upgrading.

How does the unit itself work? Can you compare it to any other units? (Avic Z1/2/3?)
How much data does it use off your phone?

I love the unit. I installed a toggle switch to override the parking brake. Sometimes it is a little bit slow loading apps. I cannot compare it to to others because I have never used them.

As for that data I don't use any of the apps that need data. The nav app i have uses pre downloaded maps on the phone so all it uses is the phones gps. All the other data apps like pandora, heart radio, and others i think would use that same amount of data as if they weren't plugged into the head unit.

It can also access all of my music, photos, music videos, and movies I have on the phone

Much better than the stock one.

Wat do you guys think about the following, I.e would you be interested in seeing a package specifically to fit tacoma/limited space set ups:

    2 10/12s rated 600wrms on a 1200 Wrms amp or 1800 (small footprint)
    1 10/12 rated 600 wrms on a 600wrms amp (small footprint)
matched with a Small footprint basic 75.4 4 channel ?

I have this unit with the JBL system speakers and woofer. Makes everything sound great. Woofer is lacking some thump, just feels like it's going to go out soon.

So question about viewing the apps on the screen. What cord is it that I have to get. I thought I got all the cords but I guess not. I didn't do the install. Can someone tell me the actual model name of it. I have the waze navi app and would love to see that on my screen.

Does anyone here know if the black metra dash kit will help reduce glare on a double din in comparison to the stock grey color?

Ok so I figured out how to work the apps. Sucks I can't control my Waze app through the touchscreen. Love the head unit, can't wait to upgrade the speakers and sub but for now the JBL system is more than enough.

That door panel is not going to splinter and impale you in case of side impact, right?

So my buddy and I just finished installing a "complete" system. The goal was clean quality sound but this was never intended to be for "show". My Taco is my commuter so it was for me more than anyone else. All said and done I spent about $1500 on parts and with my buddies help did the install on our own.

    Head Unit...
    Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS

    Dash Kit...
    Metra 95-8235CHG

    Front Doors...
    JL Audio C2-650 Components

    Rear Doors...
    JL Audio C2-650X Evolution

    Sub...
    Pioneer TS-SW3001S2 Shallow 12"

    Enclosure...
I found this on EBay and I know a custom box would have sounded better, but I was on a budget-

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-TACO...OOFER-ENCLOSURE-BOX-W-AMP-RACK-/310702745705?

    Amp...
    Hifonics BRX5000.5 Brutus

I ran a 150 amp ANL Fuse with 4 gauge wire for power and ground. There were a lot of adapters needed for the head unit and speakers but I was able to find everything for this build on Amazon except the box. I can send over the part numbers for the adapters if anyone wants them let me know.

For the money spent I am very pleased with the build. This setup may not be professional quality but it is clean and loud.

I think JVC and Kenwood are the same company. I've had several JVC radios, never had one die. Must have been bad luck.
