And yes, I agree that I'd feel more protected with a large gun. But that isn't the reality.

Me and several state and federal wildlife agencies. Like, all the states that have bears.

Believe what you wish. Google is your friend.

Seriously? Google bear spray studies and read for 5 minutes.

You're incorrect and unknowingly risking your life under the guise of a false sense of security.

You're either jacking me off because you don't believe me/don't care or you're being serious, which isn't my impression.

Take your life as seriously as I am taking your life.

Pretend I'm your neighbor, if that's someone you actually listen to. You are really pulling the wool over your own eyes, if not. And you will pay the price for that in bear country.

This is fine, and how I carry in bear country where firearms are allowed. I would never, ever carry just a firearm.

    And Wyoming. And Alaska. And..

Literally a Google of "bear spray studies" is highly recommended. There are not many places where having a gun is immediately detrimental to your safety, but bear country is one of them.

Lots of cowboys with big bores get killed because they didn't spend $50 on bear spray.

I'm sure you're right! It's a wonder how our species ever got off the ground with bear spray only being around for a few decades. How did we ever settle the continent without it!

I like you, PR, so I feel like I can jerk your chain a bit. But I'll continue to carry a gun in the rare instances that I'm in bear country, and not spray. I'll also continue to commute to work in a 20mpg Tacoma an not a 50 mpg Prius. I do lots of stuff wrong, I guess.

Please jerk away. Certainly not calling you out, just genuine concern for your safety.

Getting us back on track...all the bowhunters in my office are out in the woods this weekend. Ducks and doves take up my early season, but in 2 months I'll be back out there with this, putting more deer on the ground. Can't wait!

You know, they're saying we have 300 black bears in the state now and more every year. Rather stumble on a black bear than the grizzlies I saw in Denali any day. Both pale in comparison to the coastal grizzlies I saw all over salmon camp the year before out on the AK peninsula though...

It's an FN PBR XP in 308 Win, in a Manners stock I had GAP cut to 20" and thread for my can. I wish I had a lighter rifle for deer but I didn't get another one bought this year.

Basically a Winchester 70 action - controlled feed, claw extractor.

Thinking of picking up a Mossberg 930 SPX Tactical Shotgun. Anyone have one? If so are you happy with it Pros / Cons etc...?

    Any other you would consider?

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
I owned one only because I got it new from a PPT who didn't shoot it for $500. Gun is sweet. Overkill for me. No issues with the ammo I threw at it. Most people say stay away from Winchester Universal 100 round Walmart packs. I never tried it. I know it likes higher velocity rounds so I tend to feed it 1200+ FPS 1 1/8 bird shots. That's all I feed including 00 buckshot and slugs and never had issues with cycling or stovepipe. I traded it for a pistol and ended up getting a pump 12g recently. That's all I wanted was a pump. But for a auto shotgun it never gave me issues. With the tang safety I prefer the stock over pistol grip myself. But if you can get it for a good price you'll be happy.
