-Any cleaning recommendations? I picked up some hopes #9 and some hopes lube oil....never cleaned a hand gun, (come to think of it - I really hardly ever cleaned my 1903). Not going to get a chance to shoot today :( but I did pick up 100 more rounds of some of that Blazer Brass 115Gr. stuff, so I'll see how it shoots compared to the winchester stuff I bought yesterday. I've been doing some dry fire drills and field striping stuff but I would like to know how I should really clean it. Do I really just need to clean the barrel or should I field strip it and clean it?

Well hopefully tomorrow I'll get to the range, found an indoor place not far away so even if the weather is bad I can shoot.:D

Beretta is an Italian gun, whats with the German?

N E Way... You want to field strip, clean, and lubricate every 100 rounds or so. I clean my guns after everytime I shoot. Hoppes #9 is great. Lightly oil the slide and where it meets the frame. After cleaning the bore, you can use a lightly oiled patch. Enjoy your new gun. Happy shooting!

P.S. Doesnt the AF teach you how to clean your weapon?

The german vas just me veing vierd. Yes and no about the gun cleaning, I probably should know more about it than I do, but really we only shoot once a year. My 1903 is very basic, take the bolt out, clean, oil bolt/barrel, done. First handgun, never had to clean one before - theres a few more nooks and crannies on here that I want to make sure I'm hitting all the right spots. That's all.

Have dry fired for years! On hammer pistols like the Beretta 92 use a small O-ring or a foam ear plug in the cavity of the slide before the firing pin and the firing pin will not be damaged and you can still practice trigger control. Dry bore snake first pull from the chamber end will get you by for a long time before a detailed clean is required. A lot of good information found in the Beretta Forum in the link below.

I've heard that, which spring is that actually referring to. If I understand the idea correctly it reduces the single action pull strength required?

It reduces both the single and especially the double action pull. Just use a 19#, 1911 gov. mainspring available anywhere. Take off the grips, slightly push down the lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame on the bench and push out the pin, and replace with the gov. spring, reverse install. It is under some pressure when you remove the pin so be ready. ;) The links ought to help.

so 19# 1911 spring is the same as the "D" spring"???? Also about how much lighter is the trigger pull? It defiantly seams like a very easy thing to change.

Don't know if it's exactly the same as Beretta's D but cheap and has worked well in all my different versions of the 92 and 96 pistols with 100% reliability. Never really put a scale on any, pivot triggers are different to everyone, but definitly much lighter and smoother. Yes, very easy install.

The mainspring from the Elite II series Berettas offers a pretty damn good DA trigger, the best "factory" you can get....probably better than putting a Chevy part in a Ford.

Lord forbid you should put a different size tire on your truck than what came on it!! Just kidding. ;)

Picture shows a stock beretta 92 mainspring, longer on the left, compared to the govt. 1911, shorter on the right and as you can see the difference in diameter is only .007" inside and out. Beretta lists the stock spring at 20#, and won't list what the "D" spring in the Elite is. The govt. is a 19#. Who really knows??? All I know is that I have a lot of 1911 springs laying around from my gun shop days and they are cheap, and have been reliable in my pistols while making for a much better trigger pull without getting into polishing the internals.
