If I recall, they are completely heat treated and not spot treated. I'd be very comfortable with the frame and slide for a custom build, but I'm wondering if MIM parts could be part of the problem

Could've been a MIM front sight that was poorly cast or damaged on install (hairline crack) that split from recoil energy.

I think I'll trust Ruger's frame/slide quality when they're acceptable foundations for pistolsmiths, last I'd looked into a custom build by Virgil Tripp, he only accepted Colt and Springfield from main manufacturers.

Good point. I have yet to have either of my Springfields fail on me so I'm happy with them. Had issues only one time and it was my reload combo of semi was cutter and the powder. I haven't used the wad cutters since.

I know for sure they'd care about a failed grip safety, if nothing else.

I don't know the owner of Ruger. I've been a member of another forum 10 years or so where Ivan has been also, and am familiar with him and his dealings. He's a good man, proud of his company and his product.

I'm all for a heads up on gun safety, but the premature blame game of a manufacturer with zero evidence for it is silly, especially with the "I'll tell them later when I'm ready," attitude after the fact. That's fine and good, but you can't have both at the same time. I'm not into watching someone paint something as faulty when it hasn't been proven, and damage being done to a business' reputation without concrete legitimacy.

Water under the bridge anyway. I'm glad the guy didn't get it worse, and I hope the situation is handled correctly by all parties.

That's all I have to say about it.

Though it may have came across that way.. I assure you that I in no way was trying to discredit RIA & I thought I had made that clear.

I know RIA has great customer service. That was one of the reasons I've bought from them twice & will buy another & another & another.

Yes let's just drop the non-Ammo, wounds, etc part..

I do enjoy discussions on the ammo expansion & talking about the wound and stuff. So y'all can keep that stuff coming.

I can walk, but it hurts like hell.. On movies when people get shot and walk away.. Yeah that's the biggest load of crap!!

Dwill; that was Critical Duty or Critical Defense that you were shooting?

Just curious. I shot Critical Defense, Hydrashok, and Gold Dots in 9mm into a side of beef a few years ago (one of my parents' cattle had been slaughtered and was hanging to tenderize) when I was trying to decide what to carry and they all did a perfect mushroom and expanded properly (with the exception of one of the gold dots that hit a shoulder dead-on and pancaked instead). I ended up going with the Gold Dots because they had the most expansion, but I still have a decent supply of Hornady in the safe and now I'm wondering if I should start trading it for something else, haha!

I have the test rounds rattling around in a drawer or a box somewhere. I'll have to have a poke around tomorrow and see if I can find them.

Bingo. Your going to have to pull the ACOG WAY back. Ive dumped my BUIS in favor of pulling my TA31 further back. Don't need BUIS if you have a dialed in ACOG anyways. Anything that would ruin your ACOG would ruin you with it.
