Local shop just got a civilian colt 1911 with British proof marks that was made in 1912 or 1913 (depending on the book you read)....I want it to go with my 1903a3 and my garand

It's got the original 2 tone mag, and the original finish which I would put around %75. (Polished bluing)

CMP, the same people that hold classes for Garand building, are rumored to start doing 1911s.

Hm. That would be interesting from a historical standpoint. Imagine getting a CMP-restored GI 1911? :bananadance:

On the other hand, the 1911's are still produced, by pretty much everyone and their mom. There's hundreds of custom shops for them already; not sure why the CMP would be interested in doing it too.

The majority of what CMP sells are untouched weapons - generally taken out of the storage crates, graded, checked for serviceability and then sold. They have received federal authorization to accept and sell surplus M1911A1s - they have not yet confirmed they will do so. Like M1 Garands and Carbines, the majority of what will be sold, assuming they do sell the M1911A1s, will be just as they went into the storage crates.

This is true. I wonder how many of the old 1911A1's are still serviceable, though? I mean, they were still using surplus 1911's from WWII in Vietnam.

Not that it's likely to matter for me anyway; I expect that if the CMP does start offering them they'll be a bit out of my range, and the demand will probably be pretty huge.

I still carried an M1911A1 in the early 1980's as a young officer in the Army before we switched to the M9s. There are reported to be upwards of 300,000 M1911A1s currently in storage - at least 150,000 on the low side. They went into the crates serviceable - but from experience, that is a relative term. They will grade out at all levels with most probably being Service Grade. Conventional wisdom puts the initial selling price at $800 to $900 based on current market prices - not bad. Right now, they are authorized to sell 10,000 per year.

If anyone thinks that a single USP 1911A1 will be released to the CMP while Obama is in office, they are the most optimistic person I know. If and when they are sold off, the nice correct ones will likely be auctioned off for significant coin and the mixmasters sold after grading. Since selling USP firearms is a significant source of income for the CMP, you are not going to see screaming deals on them. It'll be interesting to see what they do to the market, when the CMP sold off the Carbines, it actually drove the market higher even though more of them were in civilian hands and for sale.

But the carbines went out the door at reasonable prices to those who qualify to buy from CMP - when (or if) CMP actually receives the first 10,000 (and no one reasonably expects it to happen any time soon) CMP has specific requirements for sale and reporting before being authorized another 10,000.

I have only polymer and revolver sidearms and one nice Double Eagle. I'd happily throw down $900 for one of these...if it ever happens.

Disclaimer: I'm very hard on my flashlights

The pd35 is a beast, very bright with a strobe function. I carry it next to the knife in my left pocket (right pocket has 238 in it). They are cheaper than sure fires and honestly after seeing what I put my PD32 through and what this one ha a even through I'll keep buying Fenix.

I am a machinist, I remember dropping my PD32 in a grinder coolant tank that had an inch of carbide sludge in the bottom under the coolant, I winced, reached my Hand in and got it out. still worked fine

When I got the PD35 I had just sold a gun so decided what the heck, I went inside the sportsman's warehouse that we met at for the sale and looked at lights, guy at the counter asked me how he could help me. I put my PD32 on the counter and said I need a replacement. He let me look at the PD35 while he took pictures of the other so that he could show people what they can go through

After carrying the 32 for 2 or 3 years I had broken all the rubber seals. I got the 35 and emailed Fenix about the 32. If I ever get around to sending it in they will fix all the seals for me and send it back. It still works fine so I haven't gotten around to sending it

Sorry for the rambling, it's late, good night

Sounds good to me, pd35 it is. I've heard nothing but good things about fenix from friends. I also get a decent military discount through govx. Thanks for the input bud
