    nothing too crazy but since I got my printer runnning again I wanted to print something I could draw up real quick. I went a little too thin on the walls to get the print time down but it'll work

    Thanks for the input! I’ll try the more aggressive cleaning first. I doubt it is the filament or print head. The print job is three separate fixtures, but only one kept popping free.

    Some of the most recent parts I’ve printed at work.

    Clockwise from top left:
    A couple basic mounting brackets;
    Some fingers and container for a robot;
    The lollipop is a ring to protect the camera from errant whacks from robot arm;
    Brontosaurus head is another bracket.
    Last is a 2-pc guard for a gage part (more robot whacking)
    For scale, the 2-pc guard is about 6” long.

    One of the robot finger sets has steel pins glued in for strength & wear.
    The 2- pc guard has brass threaded inserts installed - these get pushed in with a hot soldering iron.

    We use ASA for almost everything - good strength & toughness. Have recently tried PCTG on some parts with fine features due to its better layer adhesion.
    Printer is a Raise3D N2.

    You can’t see it well in this photo, but one of the handy features of 3D printing is the ability to incorporate the part number right into the surface of the part.
    Modeling done with Solidworks.

    Tried PETG for the first time today and was a little disappointed... it's much softer than I realized (oops) and it adheres a little too well to my breakaway support material. Any suggestions for things destined for the car cab? (PLA is too heat sensitive, as i'm sure y'all know...) Nylon? How's that ASA with heat?

    Petg has the best layer bond, but supports can be an issue. It can also adhere to some bed mats and even glass enough to bond permanently and remove chunks of mat/glass. For things inside the cab, ASA is best. It's basically ABS with UV stabilizers in it so it doesn't fade. You might be able to print things up to the size of a coke can. Bigger will need at least an enclosure and preferably a heater/hair dryer to limit warping and cracking. Nylon is a bit overkill, but would work. It is generally harder to print than abs/asa though.

    Lots of painted parts glued together here, all ABS. The barrel is three separate pieces. I made a custom cap on the backside of the hilt to hold the beltclip more securely. Want to do one of these Han Solo specials too. Both are on Thingverse.

    My son is working on a psychology assignment labeling the parts of the brain and wanted to 3D print one so I spent $5 to get a decent model. It'll take about 2 days to print half the brain. The assignment is due on Wednesday so we'll be cutting it close!

    https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-m...an-brain-6ae5a5e5-dd3a-43d0-94ae-51f6425820fe

    It's on layer 80 out of 298 right now and it's been running for about 14 hours.

    Fairly new to 3D printing but starting to get the hang of it. Here are a couple of my recent projects.

    Downloaded a BlueSea fuse block/breaker shelf from Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3141131 but made some modifications in Tinkercad so it could sit lower inline with my fuse box and since I was going to use a different breaker than the Bussman 187 panel mount. Also, the white PLA started to warp from engine heat. So far the black ABS is holding up just fine. Fun project since it was also my first time making my own battery cables with 6g wire/lugs and braided sleeving. Stoked with how it turned out.

    How long have you had the ABS version in? Curious to how it does in the California heat in addition to the engine bay heat. Looks good!

    Currently working on this relocation bracket for my trailer plug. Still need to print another version to confirm a better nut fit for the front-facing mounting bolts/nuts. For now using 6x30mm bolts and 6mm nylon lock nuts inside the bracket (nuts pressed inside after softening with heatgun then super-glued). Drilled holes to mount the plug to the bracket rather than create them in 3D design. So far nice and sturdy.Screen Shot 2021-12-13 at 8.02.39 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2021-12-13 at 8.02.27 PM.jpg IMG_3900.HEIC.jpg IMG_3902.HEIC.jpg IMG_3901.HEIC.jpg

    Only a few weeks. It was in the 80s a few weeks ago, but yeah, we'll see what 100+ does this summer.

    Curious how this holds up. I LOVE mine. Only downside is, at least with abs, is that the holes for the tungsten eventually distort as the tungsten heats up during sharpening. I've gotten half a pack on one. Could probably get a whole pack of tungsten out of one if i didnt let it get warm, but aint nobody got time fo dat.

    This is going to have 1/4-20 set screws drilled.put to take a.3/32 tungsten. That should help act as a heat sink and easy to replace wear item as the tungsten slowly wears out the hole.
