I am not sure what cad software you are using but you should be able to decrease the angle tolerance when making your STLS, so your parts come out more like circles rather than sided things.

I've only used TinkerCAD (I'm a 4th grade teacher that picked this up to teach elementary kids how to 3D design) for designing and I slice everything with Qidi software since that's the printer I'm using. While I feel like I'm finally starting to understand how to tweak settings for more successful prints, I know there's still so much more to learn, especially with smoothing out round models. Someone turned me onto Cura for hopefully better slicing, but I'd love to check out a better free/moderately priced CAD program if you know of one.

That is awesome to hear kids are learning such a useful skill at a young age. I personally use solidworks mostly because I use it at work. You may be able to get an educational license for free? Not sure but a great alternative is Fusion 360 and that is completely free for hobby use. I also use Cura if you have any questions with it.

Created this in Fusion 360. I’ll probably need to fillet this and convert it to t-spline before it creates an acceptable print. Once my queue opens up, I’ll post the outcome.

    Overhead switch housing.

I'll see if it actually works once I cut the headliner and install it.

Hey guys, having a problem with my cheapo 3D printer... which is some sort of "Ender 3" variant. I could probably Google it, but I thought I'd try here, since my prior participation in the thread is what convinced me to buy the thing in the first place!

Problem: I'm having issues with the extruder. With increasing frequency, my prints are failing because filament stops coming out of the nozzle. It appears to be getting jammed in the heater/nozzle thing. The problem manifests in either of two ways: Either the filament becomes so jammed up that it won't extrude, in which case I hear a "clunk" from the extruder motor every few seconds as it slips. Or, sometimes the filament breaks clean off at the advancer mechanism during retracts, presumably due to being stuck at the nozzle/heater assembly. When I manually extract the filament, the end is larger than normal, like a "plug." However, when I cut the enlarged part off and re-feed it to the nozzle, it flows smoothly and prints seem to work normally until the problem repeats.

So I'm not sure if this is a "clogged nozzle" problem, as the nozzle always seems to flow freely when I insert fresh filament. But something is happening to allow the filament to become enlarged near the nozzle, and it eventually jams.

I already tried ignoring it for a while; some prints would work and other would fail. But now it's consistently jamming up within a few minutes of starting a print.

I've messed around with the nozzle temp and print settings, and have tried several different filaments that have worked in the past. Nothing seems to help.

Does anybody here have experience or knowledge to suggest what part(s) I should replace?

sounds a bit like you have a gap between the Bowden tube and nozzle.

check this link out and see if it describes your issue and information on fixing it if so

I've seen this thread a few times but just never thought to take pictures till now. I've had the cap holder and tie downs a little over a year. 2 of the 4 tie downs broke but the cap holder has been a champ. I made both out of PLA on a Prusa Mk3s but cant remember layer height or nozzle size though.

Thank you! This sounds like my problem spot-on.

Today I reamed out the bore in my hot-end assembly, it was full of crud. Try saying that without laughing. Then I replaced the ptfe tube and its fittings (Bowden tube?), the nozzle, the heater block, the heatsink, and the thermistor. Learning a lot more about this stuff, especially how to spend money on it.

Unfortunately it's working worse than ever, unable to complete even a single layer before the extruder mechanism starts camming out or tearing the filament.

But I'm glad to be making progress, and I still haven't googled a goddamn thing. Thank you @Pyrotech !!!

How much retraction are you running? Im thinking with too much it would smear molten filament on the cold end.

I would also check your feeder drive assembly, mine wore out pretty early on my ender 3. Yours may be slipping on the filament now that your filament has clogged a few times.

Ive had this issue with bad filament. It was brittle and would constantly strip or break off.

To use it I had to ease up on the tension for the feed gear and slow down everything. I threw it away after a couple prints and the new spool had no issues.

Sure did! Made them a little taller to clear the top of the uni-ball. Was in a rush to test them so I just hot glued them on :anonymous: Lost one but the other is going strong lol
Need to use epoxy or something like the 3M rings that ICON uses next time.
I'm going to print another set soon so let me know if you're interested. Shoot me a DMScreen Shot 2022-02-26 at 6.40.29 PM.jpg

It's always a struggle for me to get my maxtrax mounting pin cams to turn. The trax have to be perfectly flat, and even then I find myself needing to grab some channel locks occasionally to get 'em rotated.
I decided to make a quick tool to get some additional leverage that my fingers can't provide.
