This is probably my favorite in this whole thread. Did you diy fab this? My only concern would be pinching the factory plastic rails (after taking mine off and seeing how flimsy they were) but the execution is spot on.

I'd call mine a "Rack'ette." I put our bedrolls and camping gear here and wrap a tarp around it to keep it high and dry. It's actually a 1st gen regular cab rack turned 180* and mounted on two KBVoodoo bed bars.

I understand the bedsides support the load downwards... but what about when you're bouncing around offroad? When your rack weight is moving upwards or sideways or forward/backward, isn't it the bedrail that is having to deal with all this movement?

So I realized I only posted a pic of when I first picked up my used RCI rack. Seeing other photos it seems they have updated the side plate section a couple times with the newest one having long slots going down the sides, which probably makes it a lot easier to attach stuff. First thing I had to do with the old style to attach my hi-lift is open up and elongate two holes to get the 1/2” carriage bolts in and aligned (new design has larger rectangular holes). My rotopax bolts right in, but if I wanted the long 4 gallon one it wouldn’t fit (new one has looooong slots to adjust). I spoke with RCI about buying the new side plates but think since I’ve modded this much I might as well stick with it. I dunno, time will tell...

    Pic dump!

Thanks! Alpine Designs made it for me. I’m doing fiberglass bedsides so I wasnt too concerned with the condition of the plastic long term. The holes in the rack are slotted for when I get my fiberglass.

Yeah. I have a small compressor and shower head for it. Works great in summer.

From what I've read and understand about the bed rails yes you're correct. For this reason I'm currently looking at BAMF and brute force fab for my rack, both transfer weight of rack and gear to the bed. I'm hoping brute force can work with me to leave their name off the sides (I prefer a more clean, simple look), waiting to hear back from them. They are both in the SF Bay Area and seem open to customizing their racks for each customer. Links below to both.

I’ve seen Both racks in person and they are amazing. Note: brute force fan is by Fresno. Close enough. I picked up my bumpers late last year and the drive wasn’t bad from the bay to Fresno and back.

Either way you go, you can’t go wrong. Both Jerry and billy are good dudes

You’re very right, I think I misread ‘fresno’ for ‘fremont’... bummer I was hoping it’d be a quick 10 minute detour (I work on Hayward)... oh well I think I’ll probably still make that drive to Fresno to save the $100 shipping. Especially if they can work with me on a few revisions to their base designs.

I live in concord so that would be great, but I haven’t put an order in yet so I doubt it will be ready in time. I should be hearing back from them today. Thanks for the offer I’ll PM you if they can somehow finish it before then!

I think I read somewhere the vertical slots come on the aluminum rack...

    I have steel.

I would not trust loading up an aluminum bed rack - but that's just me...

I don't hate it, but it's definitely the oddest bed rack out there.
