I spray the wheels more than my hands . I also use the brush so I don't really get it on me at all. I can imagine it's pretty nasty though. It smells pretty toxic.

I'm just mentioning it because is switched to simple green a couple years back. You can clean anything with it and its pretty nuetral. Won't hurt or etch anything. I use it to wash my frame, bed, engine bay, wheels, tires, wheel wells, garage floor, motorcycle, tools, use it on pressure washing jobs....

Is the weight and ride of an E rated tire as bad as some ppl make it out to be? I've been going crazy trying to figure out if im willing to go to a 10ply tire to get the one I want. As far as the ride I'm hoping that upgrading to 5100s will help out. I am slightly concerned with the weight. I only have 700 miles on my 17 DCSB but it definitely isn't the most powerful truck. I just want to make sure I'm not going to make this truck ride like my old lifted dodge diesel (which I think my kidneys are still bleeding from)

I was in your shoes worried about the E rating and I must say it's not that bad and I'm definitely used to it now. Just my opinion but I too was worried about it. I Won't hesitate to buy E rating for ride quality.

I'm only curious about C and D rating now for a weight savings.

Ron is spot on to about the PSI as that can make a difference on how they feel. (My E's were Duratracs and no complaints......looking forward to trying the Coops)

It depends on how the tire is built.
The c rated AT3s I had have stiffer side walls than the E rated ST Maxx.
When you air down the maxx will create a larger footprint and conform to rocks better.
The AT3 is better on the road but has a stiffer ride.
THe maxx is a softer ride but, designed to flex, a much tougher tire and much better off road grip...
Off road they ride much better than the AT3, It's was crazy how much smoother they were over the small bumps at the dunes.

Some E rated tires are for heavy trucks the maxx is for light trucks with E rated armor.
A lot of the full mud tires are much stiffer and ride like bricks.
The jeep guys have this problem, they want the big mud tire look but hate the ride.

The ride is great with the maxx the E rating will just add weight and strength on this tire.
My hesitation was they would be too soft for hwy speed but they are good to about 75.
I think with the light Tacoma, this is a perfect tire to balance the best off road grip with a good ride to get there.

You will love this tire the hard part will be picking out the right size.
255,265,275,285,295 or 305 are all size that work...
My favorite all around size is the 275 70 17, 4 3/4 BS wheel and no rubbing with no or very little trimming.
But so far with some trimming the 285 70 17 have been great and good road manners, so far....

Thank you guys for all the info. I'm planning on running a 275/70/17 and I'm really thinking of going with the st maxx. Now the only thing is getting over the price. I just looked at discount tire and they want 247 a tire. I'll have to shop around a bit.

About airing up, I got the viair 440P for my trip to Colorado, I hated paying this much for a portable, it's expensive but awesome.
If you're getting a viair go for the 440P not the auto shut off.... My pump is much faster than my buddies viair. He got a smaller one.
Air up the 285s from 26 to 42 psi in 90 seconds.
