Are there any tires that out perform these? They seem like the best on the market right now.

How do you like the tall and skinny 33's? Any idea how much they're impacting your fuel economy?

No idea yet how they are impacting the fuel economy, but seat of the pants the truck feels just a bit slower.

Looks wise, I love them. Definitely fill out the gap of the wheel wells nicely and look like a mean tire ready for adventures. They don't look any skinnier than the 31" KO's the truck came with. No complaints.

Where have you guys been ordering them from? Only place I have found is Discount Tire Direct which seems to have a good price on the 285/75/16s of $204. Any other recommendations?

Honestly Walmart. At least for 255s, it's the cheapest I've found without hovering over Amazon.

Edit: discount tire is hooking you up. Walmart's 285s are expensive. I wish they sold 255s

So I have read most of this and lots other post. In need of new tires on my 2008 trd off road and am leaning towards the maxx. My truck is not lifted, would consider it. Was thinking going 255/85/16 do I have to lift with those? Will I get rubbing even with lift?
any thoughts or ideas would be great

On a no lift Tacoma, 255/85R16 or 255/80R17 will rub everywhere especially when the suspension is fully compressed. Largest tire you can run on a stock Tacoma with no to very minimal rubbing (typically on the front mud flap) is 265/75R16 or 265/70R17.

So would you then suggest 5100 like at 2.5 up in the front, and add a leaf in the back?

That's a pretty good budget entry lift. If you got a little extra cash but still want something simple, I would suggest: http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p440/Coil/Bilstein_5100_Kit_-_(HS05BK-1).html

This will help with coil selection: http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/uploads/1/1/8/4/11846658/lift_guide_shock_and_coil_selection.pdf

I would suggest the 885 coil selection and then the 3-leaf add a leaf for the rear.

If you have a lot more extra cash I would say get the Bilstein 6112s in the front. They are miles ahead in terms of ride.

But for 255/85R16 or 255/80R17 I would suggest having a 2-2.5 inch lift. I am currently running 255/80R17 right now with a 2.5 inch lift and I like the looks and it rides very nicely. I do have wheel spacers on right now with my stock rims, but debating to take them off, even though I do like the stance of it

Not true. I ran 255/80r17 on stock wheels on a stock height tacoma and didn't rub. Even took it on some pretty technical stuff and didn't rub. All I did was unbolt the front fender liner (two bolts and one body clip) and shove it forward out of the way and secured it with a zip tie. Below are a couple quotes from my build thread showing it.

"Decided to do a little driveway flexing too! Coulda gone higher but started getting sketched out.

It's mighty close! I know as soon as I hit a bump while turning, it's rubbing. I'm going to undo some front clips and shove the fender back and ziptie it out of the way.

    "

This is what I'm talking about with the fender liner.

well then I stand corrected.... that is something interesting. Those are stock Toyota Sequoia rims though right? I know they def aren't Tacoma (probably doesn't make a difference)
I would imagine speed bumps at speed you'll hear some plastic contact

Yeah, they're sequoia wheels! The only difference is they are +15mm vs +30mm of the Tacoma wheels. As far as the rubbing of bumps at speed, there is none. I wheeled a really rocky trail a couple days after getting these, and my suspension was stuffed way the hell up there. I was constantly checking if I was rubbing out of curiousity, and I wasn't. It's close in the front corner, but not enough to rub.

Good to know man thanks! Actually kind of blown away by that haha I had 265/70 on stock sport rims and it hit the front mud flap and had some slight UCA contact at full lock. I did see 3rd gens rocking 255/85 on stock setup so cool to see it works for 2nd gens to, to late for me though since I lifted everything haha

I threw a lift on too just a couple days ago! I was only running it on stock suspension for a few weeks, but it's cool to know it can be done. I was fully prepared to cut stuff out of the way, but was pleasantly surprised when I didn't need to.
