That's the plan for tomorrow. It seemed to get a little better when I dropped them from 40 psi to 36/34 F/R, so I'm going to see if 35/32 F/R helps until I can get out of class tomorrow and run a chalk test.

We had some tires that were really floaty on our Mercedes. They hated the grooved roadway surfaces and it felt like there was absolutely no control at freeway speed. It was a shitty driving experience! They never got better and we never cared to lose money on them, they were super expensive tires with a crazy tread wear rating.

Any of you go from 285's (any brand) to the 255 maxx's and comment on power gains or MPG gains (if any)? Bought a truck with 285's, but the MPG isn't stellar and I'd like to recoup some power and MPG without dropping sizes.

Got mine mounted up today! Love them. They ride smooth and aren't any louder than my stock dunlops even at highway speeds.

    Sexy.

Any noticeable harshness in the way it rides now? What pressure are they at?

255/85/16s weigh 53 a piece, I think the 285/75/16s are 61 a piece. That won't make much of any difference. The height will be the same, so forget any power gains. The 255 are less wide so there will be less drag, this may give you an extra half an mpg when you do extended highway driving. Tire choice really won't have drastic difference. The main thing is that your truck will accelerate from a stop better with smaller (less diameter) tires, and that taller skinnier tires will be better for offroad traction; well, except for in the case of extremely loose sand mud or snow, then you want wider tires.

    What size are those?

*Edit* And is that at stock height? Any rubbing?

Thanks! I love the look. Not really any harshness. It feels firmer but nothing jarring. The shop put them at 32 each I believe.

These are 265/75/16. Yeah it's stock height. My toytec lift is sitting in the garage. I need to install it.

I hit the drivers side mudflap at full lock and hitting a bump. But it's loose. Once I replace them with smaller ones it should be fine. Plus it'll be lifted 2.5" soon.

Thanks! I appreciate the response. I'm putting this on a DD that won't see a trail besides camping. Might just go with a 275 instead, to keep some width, but not as tall.

I did... 2 hours ago ;) Had 285/70/17's BFG AT's & put on Maxx 255/80/17's. i don't expect much change in power or MPG's as they are almost exactly the same weight, but with a skinner tire and less rolling resistance (?) maybe the Maxx's will fair better.

What was immediately noticeable was the noise difference. The Maxx's were noticeably quieter than the AT's, but not as substantial of a drop as going from a MT to AT. (I had Dick Cepek mud terrains prior to the AT's and the road noise difference was night and day.) At any rate, i'm super pleased so far.

If that's the plan, forget the width. Go as skinny as possible. Unless, of course, its an aesthetic thing for you. But, I will warn you, 255/85/16 looks plenty wide and beefy for aesthetic purpsoses.

I think they give the look of a wider tire when there pushed out a little farther too. So if you want that look of a wider tire, get a rim with less bs.

My tires 255 really don't look all that skinny, from most angles.

Correct except for the snow. Narrow tires are better in snow. You carve through much better and can reach the ground at the bottom of the snow for better traction. Fat tires suck in snow.
