Brought them off craigslist. Not sure, what .5 can size is but I tested the bigger can in the pic and it was too big.

Got about half the cutting done. I’m going to try and finish up tomorrow if it’s not too cold. If all goes well hopefully I’ll have the cutting and bending done tomorrow and drill all my holes by the weekend.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Getting ready to do a DIY rear high clear bumper and swing out. Question for all the DIY armor makers in here. What thickness steel is recommended for making the bumper mounting brackets that bolt to the frame? I'm thinking 1/4... But I was recently at the BAMF - Pelfry aftermath liquidation extravaganza and it appeared Pelfry was using 1/2 (Damn, that's thick and a pain in the ass to work with)

That's a lot of weight on there so the thicker the better.

Ya, I get that. But Class IV receiver hitches don't even use half inch. And the frame rails themselves are only (what) 3/16th?

1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
1/2 maybe on the frame mounts to shackle location the rest is normally 3/16

I'd that. Most of the frame is fairly thin.

Depending on application I'd use 3/16 or 1/4 for frame to bumper connections. Adding bends or boxing makes 3/16ths more than enough. You have to think about twisting and shearing loads (think about winching at a 45 degree angle, up or down hill).

I like how you were able to make it in multiple pieces.

Well, started the rear high clearance bumper with swing out. Ended up using 3"x1/2" for the frame brackets. It was just easier to do, and make for stout shackle mounts.
