Go into an accident and deformed the front bumper enough to scrap it and build another.

I've been thinking of building something similar for my camper.

What dimension tube did you use for the main part?

The main (rear) part in 4” channel and the wings are 2” tube iirc.

He's my super simple rear bumper. It took an afternoon and about 100 bucks. I wanted the have a high clearance hitch for a bike rack and dirt bike carrier. Plus being able to have a recovery point on the rear.

I can't believe I just now found this thread. I've been a machinist for 26 years and can MIG and TIG. There is lots of inspiring work here. I have many pages to to read/look through. :)

I plan to make the tubing for the top of the 4Xinnovations plate bumper I have ordered. I'd like to use 1.5" on the headlight hoop and 2" on the center hoop. 1/8" WT should work well. I don't know much about bending tubing like this. I've bent conduit but this is different. Local muffler shop doesn't have a mandrel bender, does it have to be a mandrel bender to get good results with this material?

Yes, for good bends your guna want a tube bender. Check in with your locals fabricators and regional TW forums.

Thanks. I've had a hard time finding DOM locally too. It sounds like some folks are using schedule 40 pipe for hoops on bumpers. Sounds like it's not as strong as DOM but on some applications its OK. I sort of suspect that ARB uses 1.5" pipe on their bumper hoops since it's 1.885 OD. :gossip:

For hoops HREW should be fine, you don’t need the yield strength of DOM it will save you some $$ too.

Thanks Rybern. I was really pleased with how it all turned out. Spent a lot of time on the details. The great thing is I was able to keep it very light and I think I came up with a really strong support for the winch. Aluminum is pretty fun to work with.
