I built it out of necessity and what I had laying around.( old lumber rack) But its kindof stayed on ever since. Works well. Definitely let it slide off a few ledges.20201113_164541.jpg 20201113_164500.jpg 20201113_164511.jpg 20201113_164452.jpg

Does anyone have any pictures specifically of where your bumper mounts to the frame?

There are mounting points that you can kinda see in the side view. The bumper reinforcement in the front view was removed when installation of the fabricated bumper. Let me know if you have more questions.

dg5 I guess I should have been more specific, I meant more as what people have done, not where. Like how thick of a plate they used to attach, maybe they made that piece a specific way for one reason or another, is it different if your putting on a winch plate or not? just trying to get a starting point here for a winter project

just the front bumper, in all honesty I’ll probably buy the rear bumper because I tow things regularly and I believe I saw one that’s high clearance and has the hitch behind the plate?

Ohhh got it let me dig for some photos to show the how I attached.

You can see the holes for mounting to the frame in this one. I made the plate 3/8 thick. And the winch mounting plate is 5/8 thick.

so lets hope it doesnt look as bad as some of the homemade bumpers ive seen rolling around the Albuquerque streets

For the guys with winches, do you have any suggestions on how much room to leave for an install later down the road? Also where am I looking to keep the mounting plate for it, centerline with the frame or can it be above it?

Mine is a coastal bumper and my winch sits right in front of the radiator, above centerline. I actually had to remove the little black bar the stock bumper attached to to make it fit. You want it where you can access the free spool lever, whether this be near the top of the bumper or have an access hole.

When i made my bumper i tried to align the winch cable as best as possible with the frame attachments, but also ended up a little above the centerline.

I present to you the Bethlehem Bumper, most the steel is 1940s I beams that came out of Bethlehem steel, I’m assuming the Buffalo NY plant that was right down the road. Still have to do a bumper cut and bend some tube, but overall generally happy with what’s been done so far. I got to know my grinder on a personal level I never thought was possible. I’ll update with some more pictures as it all gets welded up.
