Caught this brute Father's Day weekend. Measured 83" long but we didn't have access to a scale to weigh it. According to our tide book chart for halibut, it's around 311 pounds. I don't think it was quite that big, but it's easily over 200 pounds. Amazing fish either way!

Well I'm not a guide but I think the going rate up here is 225-250 a head for a charter.

 Haha the fishing was actually really poor all weekend. Only landed one other keeper. We were just about ready to call it a day and then I hooked that fish. 45 minutes later I had a dead arm and back.

The backstrap on the gar is the only thing worth eating IMO. But you better have 1 hell of knife because their "armor" is tough as nails! I use large tin snips. Seriously. Fun to shoot but hell to clean!

But the gar are overpopulating the small local creeks, eating everything. They get huge and then their only real threat is a gator. A few groups of us help keep the population in check... And some of the gar we shoot turns into catfish bait or chum...

Went out a few weeks ago on a whim and caught a small cobia on a live bait (good picture). About 20min later a pack of about 5 small ones swam through and I hooked the biggest (about 30-35"if I had to guess), made a good run and jumped like a bass and ended up throwing the hook. An hour after that another pack came through and I ended up getting one that measured 33" to the fork (bad picture, unless you like fish fin and man belly). 10min later a friends rod goes off after he asked me to watch it for a couple minutes, throws the hook. 4hrs later the same guy who I was watching the rod for, hooked up. Fought for about 20-25min and after a bad gaff shot by yours truly, another friend got a good shot and then I came in for a backup gaff. This fish became his first cobia after about 15yrs of trying (last pic). It was most definitely a memorable day on the planks.

The bad picture happens to be the guy who caught the fish. Fortunately I was able to get an alright picture for him.

Edit: all released fish were tagged and reported for future catches.

Was at a little bass pond on the hunting camp yesterday... The pond is pretty small, about 1/2 acre. Caught 1 bass... Maybe a 1 pounder if that... No picture of him...

But these cute little fellas kept going after my artificial bait!

Pulled 3 of these guys out the water within 30 minutes.

The baby gators, along with the bass, were all released back in the pond.
