My only pic of my grandfather. Taken probably late 50s, early 60s down around Port Aransas20151202_190735.jpg . Dude taught me how to cuss and wear overalls. Thought this was a cool pic and thought Id share. Knowing the mean old bastard, he probably ate that nasty old jack.

Crappie time here finally. The late cold has been making things tough.

I've been looking for motivation to go fishing, finding this thread (more of seeing the word fishing) was enough for me to go this afternoon (I live in Raleigh NC). Finding this post makes me sure I am going to the Outer Banks sometime this month. Those are some nice fish you caught there. What setup were you using and what bait?

Got out in the boat for a couple hours today and managed to eventually find some crappies and a nice bluegill up shallow.

It’s beautiful down here right now for the fishing. Buxton/hatteras/Ocracoke are the hot spots at the moment, the northern beaches will be following shortly. Going down south again this weekend, hell i have been every weekend for the past month or so.

Large fish, 12-13’ x-heavy rod with a fast tip that is rated 8oz+ with a reel capable of holding at least 270-300yrds of 15-20lb mono.

Small fish 9-11’ medum-medium heavy rod that can throw 3-6oz and a lighter reel with 30lb braid (12lb mono if using conventional gear).

The rig I use for both is pretty much the same, a modified cannonball rig. Just switch up the leader and size of the hook depending on what kind of fish I’m looking for. And bait is usually either shrimp or cut mullet, again depending on what I’m targeting.

Leaving for Ocracoke tomorrow am :)
Hoping like hell to catch something other than whiting but I’ll definitely be happy even if that’s all that’s biting lol.
Planning on focusing on surf casting the inlets and we’re bringing a canoe for sound fishing n crabbing
Please feel free to pm me with any hot tips on locations lol
Do they rent big gear at Tradewinds?

Fishing was good today but I could do without the Cottonmouths. Saw about three.
