Got a quick question......... just want to know what knows you guys use when using braid............... been losing a lot of hooks and fish............... thanks in advance for the answers.

 

I have been using the cinch knot......... but making a knot with the existing loop........ before cinching it down if you know what I mean.....

 

dono what kind of knot that is n don't use braid

but loosing allot of fish don't sound good I use a "fishing knot" taught to me a long time ago....rap line around like 7 times, stick thru loop, then thru other loop you just created. Sintches down good and doesn't fail. Might could use it with braid and only twist like 3 times

 

All I use anymore is braid. however I always tie on a 2ish foot florocarbon leader. I just use a simple triple surgeons knot to tie the leader to the braid then a clinch knot which is identical to what naymo just said. anywhere from 4 to 6 wraps depending on the strength of the line. Ive pulled in many 50lb cobia with this setup. I never tie braid straight to a hook.

but if you want to tie straight to the hook look up the palomar knot. its incredibly simple and almost 100% strength.

to explain it just double your line, stick it through the eye, tie an overhand knot, then pass the lure or hook through the loop that was created with the doubled line and then tighten.

I need to learn more knots. Spoke with a guy that said on his heavers from the shore he uses braid leader....kind of opposite from what Kam said...hmmm

also you will notice when you pass through the bottom loop you create a loop on top.. if you pass the tag end through this its called the improved clinch knot.

however i only do 4-6 turns depending on strength of line.

4 for 50lb or higher 5 for 20 to 50lb and 6 for anything under 20

I have never had a knot pull once i learned these knots properly. If i lose a fish it eitehr breaks or throws the hook.

 

I am using the improved cinch knot now......... I might not be leaving enough line on the end............

 

That knot is not very good for tying braid to a hook. I have had similar experiences with that knot pulling when using braid.

improved clinch knot....that's what I was taught. Never knew the name Great knot!

 

i personally just use the clinch knot. seems to have more of a low profile to me than the improved clinch. has yet to fail on me.

 

I might have to try the simple cinch knot........ just that before I changed to braid I noticed that the improved cinch worked so much better..............

 

its all personal preferece really. what you feel more confident in tying usually works better for you..its all about confidence

 

Well this year I have caught and loss more 5 lb largemouth bass then I have ever in all the 30 years of fishing. SO I have to perfect the knot in which I use since I have more then enough line strength with 20 lb braid.............and yes this year I also had a fish snap my line due to size but I think it was a pretty big northern pike.........
