No fish for me today but we did have a close encounter with a bear. Took some pics once we were at a safe distance.

I have been wanting to get into carp fishing for a while to vary it up a bit. I can honestly say I should have gotten into this earlier! This morning I caught a huge carp that I fought on 10lb braid and 10lb leader for 15 minutes before I could tire him out enough to get him in a net. I'm putting my st croix Triumph 6'6" rod and Diawa 2500 to the test. Pretty stoked!

    Beautiful fish.

There’s a place I got camping several times during the summer that’s loaded with bass and large 20lb+ carp. I figured the bass out on my first ever trip there years ago, but I still can’t for the life of me figure out how to catch them stubborn armored tanks.

Look for action as they scour the bottom: mud being stirred up and concentrated bubbles rising. The bait is as simple as a small circle hook with a nickel-sized ball of bread kneaded around it, with the hook protruding. Cast near them and keep your bail open. As soon as the line starts swimming away, close the bail, lightly set the hook and hold on tight!

These fish show themselves in the shallows near the grass beds, it’s almost impossible to sneak up on them. Once the sun gets through the trees they disappear till the evening time.

I’ve tried both the corn and bread, but the bluegill tend to sit there with their mouths open waiting.

Next year will be the year though. Once fishing slows down here in the next couple months, I’ll have more time to do my YouTube research.

What size circles are you using, 1? 1/0? Can’t imagine using much bigger.

10! That's the beauty of the circle hook; even the small ones hold tight after hook set.20211016_102356.jpg

:rofl: I’m going to have to go shopping. Smallest I have are 2. Add a /0 to the 10 and that’s normally what I’m using for drum

Some big stockers this year. Caught a huge breeder that came unhooked in my net and flopped out before I could snap a pic, I generally fish barbless for the easy release. Got soaked trying to net it cause I wore my hip waders instead of my chest waders lol. I’ll see if it’s still there tomorrow

    So surprise for me.
One more trip to the lake.
Requested by a ex coworker to run his boat.

Hasn’t gotten wet in two years.
7 hours setting up the boat and trailer.
They never setup the boat or trailer right.
    So white caps.
    40° temps
    It was horrible..
Worse conditions I ever was in…
But I promised to run the boat.
And I just happened to bring my emergency fishing rod and tackle.
    (Stored away in the truck).
All my primary stuff is packed away.

This is the absolute latest time of year I have ever wet a line.
    I’m beat…

Went to the spot where I'm pretty much guaranteed a Texas slam everytime. Didn't get skunked due to this 2 inch speckled trout :anonymous:
