It looks a lot like a grass carp. Invasive and illegal to catch and release. I see that they have been found in Wisconsin.

From the picture I posted I can totally see where you're coming from but the mouth is not right on the grass carp. The fella that I accidentally snagged has a full-on sucker mouth and the grass carp does not.

That’s good news then…haha. Was thinking I may have unknowingly ratted you out. Certainly wouldn’t have been my intention.

I know they catch a lot of redhorses in early spring in Wisconsin when they run. We used to have a lot down here as well. Very fun to catch. Fight very good as well. Some people claim they are great to fillet and fry, but very boney.

Depends on where you are. Around here some smaller ponds/lakes have them purposely stocked to help control aquatic weed growth and it is illegal to keep or remove them from the water.

A couple walleye while trolling from the sailboat in weak winds. The larger one was legal and ended up being lunch.

the grass carp sold for veg control are sterile or “triploid” to forestall their invasive tendencies. There are also feral reproducing pops in some Mississippi River tributaries

Oh there will be some mods all right
Special story with this beautiful fella. Third time in 3 different days was the charm with him. All three times I was able to sight fish. He was extremely picky and all three times required a minimum of 15 minutes of finessing and changing baits to get him to bite. All three times that he bit were on a different soft plastic and twice I had him on the hook and he got off, but today I was able to get him on the hook and land him. Super fun experience to pit myself against a fish and really try different techniques of presentation and finesse.
