    YAH MON!!!!! Did 30 minutes of fishing with the new rod and reel set up. I got two fish each of which were about 12 inches. This is the first time I went fishing that I caught something. I knew it was a good sign when I walked up to the shore line and there were a bunch of fish swirls. They ended up mainly being bass mixed in with crappy and blue gill. I am excited, the new fishing year is here. My attempts with the baitcaster were not too bad, no really bad birdnests just a little of over spool. Nothing a little pull of the line that it didnt fix.

    :frusty: FAIL! :smack: :bananadead::rant::facepalm:

    so the late Aaron Mardis of Memphis continues to hold the record set 36 years ago on March 2nd, 1976 with a 16-pound, 4-ounce largemouth bass caught on Mallard Lake near Manila in Mississippi County.

    I been trying to get VA's record from 1984 :p *checks license in wallet*

    Jeff, that top one is nice, what did that go about 6lb? Why chase those striped ones when the green ones are that size...wow you got to love largemouth in the south!

    I saw the pics of the new rod and reel set up, nice selection. How do you like Vendetta? I looked atone last week seemed like a good rod. I had the Vendetta and the Mojo (St Croix) in my hands at Bass Pro, and ended up with the Mojo, but I really liked that Vendetta, just liked the cork handle on the Mojo better.

    I love baitcasters for working heavier topwater plugs and suspenders. anything where there is a lot of eratic movement. there is a less chance of messing up the line on a spool of a baitcaster than a spinning reel.

    anything else is done with spin gear.

    Bear Mace, i was a ways back in the woods with my brother. i paddled a canoe back to this little spot i have. I have come across a few bears fishing and i figure there is no harm in having it with me. so far however all the bears i have seen / come across have bolted. i agree it looks a little odd.

    The Vendetta is really nice, I like the sponge handle instead of the cork. It was a good price too I think $80..... can't beat that. Super light and really strong!!!

    i just figured it is time to learn how to use them. I needed to take a little line off the spool. Gander put a little too much on. I adjusted everything this morning but haven't been able to go fishing yet to try it out.
