yea gimmie a bit and i can dig some stuff up...the only stripers we catch around these parts are further up the river towards fresh water..no saltys like you get up north..

used to catch em up when I lived in VA..was a pretty good time.

    too warm down these parts

Most bait casters reel with the right hand. Most spinners reel with the left hand. That is the general standard in the industry. They can be switched or bought differently but that is how most things are manufactured. Most surf fishers here you will see running spinning gear. Generally for surf fishing guys get the long 10 foot or longer rods tho this is not necessary. It just helps keep your line out of the waves and make longer casts. For here I'd recommend probably 20 lb braided line for surf fishing. Most guys use heavier but it's not completely necessary. I tend to use lighter tackle anyways.

For tackle I'd recommend some small sturdy circle hooks. If you have never used them before give them a try. If you don't know about circle hooks I can give you some more info there. For bait some top choices for surf fisherman is fresh dead shrimp. Live shrimp. Salted clams. Or sand fleas. Most use double dropper rigs with anywhere from like 2 to 6 ounces of lead. Anything more and the current is just ripping. Typically you will see pyramid sinkers.

You can catch anything from whiting to trout to redfish to pompano to sharks to bluefish to stingrays. Possibly even flounder if times are right.

Take close note to tides. Most guys like the last half of the outgoing and first half of incomming. this concentrates fish in the trough between the shore and first sandbar. Look for washouts and fish near them. This brings bait out to the fish.

    Edit.

As for places to fish there are tons of options...anywhere along the beach can be sucessful in our areas...again just look for the runouts. (if you dont know what this is i can explain this as well)

Also dont overlook places like ft. george inlet and nassau sound. Both of these places can provide great fishing with some shelter if the beaches are too rough. I dont know how far south you may want to go but there is a place along the beach to the south of jacksonville called the gate station...There is an actual gate gas station on the side of the road along the beach and there is typically great fishing along the beach there.

Dont overlook the use of swivels at the the top of your rigs for surf fishing. I always use braided line now and either tie fluorocarbon leaders directly to my braid or use swivels. For surf fishing i do swivels. To much washing and rolling around can cause some nasty line twist.

Here is an absolutely horrible paint drawing of my interpretation of a double dropper rig.

I typically use about 20lb. fluorocarbon leader. I prefer seguar but its a bit more pricey.

the loops are super easy to make ill try to find a video..if not i can meet up with you and show you some good to know easy knots if you are not good with any yet.

braided is stronger, thinner, and more durable than mono. there is zero stretch and its highly sensitive...the biggest issue is knot tying some knots that work for mono wont work for braid..but this is easily fixed with some research. its generally best to tie a leader to it as well.

also if you fish the river any fishfinder rigs work as well.

cut mullet will generally give you better chances at redfish, possibly flounder. bluefish, and other randoms.

for the pompano and whiting cut mullet isnt the best choice tho anythings possible.

anywere along our beaches can produce fish..as I said earlier..look for runouts and fish them.

and that combo there doesnt look bad...

the rod isnt as important as the reel for surf fishing.

penn is a great name for gear. I have no experience with that exact model though. but lets just say my cobia/tarpon/shark rigs are all penn spinning reels ahah.

and in all honesty the key to keeping your gear from going to shit is not dunking it in salt water..and rinsing it with fresh water EVERYTIME you are done using it...however do not use a nozzle on the hose when rinsing your reel. use as little pressure as possible as high pressure can force salt deeper into your reel.

just use a regular hose and turn on a bit of water...rinse it down good..and air dry.

shimano is my other top choice :D

everything we own is either penn or shimano...except for our bottom fishing reels..which are diawa..cuz we got a damn good deal on them ahaha.
