No worries! We all have to start somewhere with our knowledge.

A hardtail is a bike that has no suspension in the rear of the bike. Usually hardtails have a suspension fork on the front of the bike but not always.

A full suspension bike is one that has a suspension fork up front and also has a shock in the rear. People usually have full suspension bikes because they can be ridden more aggressively and pushed harder than hardtails. They are also just more comfortable to ride because you have cushion in the front and the rear.

The first picture is a hardtail. The second picture is a closeup of the back of the hardtail showing that there is no suspension.

The third picture is a full suspension bike. The fourth picture is a closeup showing the shock on the back of the bike.

I also embedded a video of what a talented rider can do on a full suspension rig. This video always get me stoked to ride!

Man I love my HT. Too bad I was just getting into it at the time of purchase, so it's a little light on components and heavy on weight. It's an Alivio line bike by Raleigh. I did put an entire new brake system on tho with avid calipers and handles and alligator cables with teflon coated.inner cables. Damn near smooth as my hydros. Also installed a used coil Tora fork with motion control.
My Cannondale I got after I got more serious. Its an FSR. I took off two chainrings and installed a single unramped ring with bashguard. Now looking to trade out the 9-speed for the newer 10 speed rear end.
I love the hell out of my dually but there's just something to the way a HT feels that I really like.

Ditto, but also that old Diamond Back would be fine as a starter bike.

Thanks Airun! I definitely feel blessed to enjoy some nice rigs. The Turner has 150mm of fork travel.

    What are you riding on?

07 Titus Motolite with 145 Nixon and Crossmax SX. Built decently burly but 27.5 lbs ain't bad.:D
Itching to upgrade to a carbon frame but the ML does so well it's hard to justify.

That vid is so sick! Talk about a trail with a little of everything. The upper part reminds me of Porc Rim. Those drops to flat outta that spillway looking setup are ridiculous. Anyone know what model of Mongoose that is? Tough rig!
    Boot'r or Teocali?
