    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Project 1 of 2 completed as of last night: Dad's '12 Heckler custom build.

    CameraZOOM-20120830113131685-picsay_ff2dcb7015cc32a621dff5cde7afa6fcb91dc37d.jpg

Pretty much his early birthday present from me. He's been wanting a mountain bike for the longest time, even taking my Butcher around the neighborhood lol. So I decided to piece one together for him. Started with a $550 2012 Santa Cruz Heckler frame from SC's '12 frame clearance sale a few weeks ago.

Since I went with the Hammerschmidt & all new SRAM drivetrain on my Butcher, I decided Dad's Heckler was the perfect bike to use my old Shimano SLX drivetrain I had sitting in a box. Picked up a decent older ("chocolate brown" color) Fox 36 on Pinkbike for $250, and my LBS hooked me up with a brand new WTB "Free Ride Laserdisc" for $150 & Raceface bars for $30. The homie Jordan("JordanSmith127" on here) gave me a steal on a NEVER MOUNTED 2012 Avid Elixr brakeset(brakes, rotors, adapters) and brand new pedals for $270. Everything else, I already had as parts laying around. My goal was to build this bike for around $1000 all said and done. I came close!

    Next update...

Went with an Easton Havoc 35mm carbon bar(800mm!) & direct mount stem on the Nomad:

    CameraZOOM-20120830113640260-picsay_fc4c41d54ddd790af465c4c325ca2749c361b3f3.jpg

SUPER fat, and surprisingly lighter than the old Easton Havoc carbon if you can believe that haha.

Weighed her after, hit my goal of 31lbs!!!

    CameraZOOM-20120829192313236-picsay_39cb37bf3aaf2e3b269cf5373201fa576ce889d1.jpg

The previous setup was an Easton Havoc carbon bar 31.8 mm(standard) w/750mm width and a Point One Racing Stem. I will be using the bar for my Blur LTc build aka "Project #2" :D

@airun i also noticed that the frame is also a British flag i didnt even realize it! haha it would be even more bad ass if it was an American theme!

I noticed that Greg Minnaar also has a South African theme going which is sick as well. I wish Gwin would have done something, that would have been so sick
le pics didnt work :notsure: maybe its just my computer.

EDIT: i think its because you only have 1 post, im not sure if thats a rule here or not but it is on some other forums.

Had about 5 times today while going downhill through a rock garden thinking "I am gonna beef it right now." and then I just look ahead and my suspension soaks it up yay. I am also never riding in the late evening without eye protection, three bugs all at high speed in the same eye. Bloody annoying.

Question: Does anyone here go to spin classes at a gym to get your legs more fit?

Nope, just plain ole hamster bike at the Y reading MBA, Bike, Bicycling and fantasizing about sweet trail (primarily Porc Rim, most fun evah!).
On a side note: sweet ass Pinarello Paris frame 54cm on Pinkbike right now for $800, shipping 270$ to me kills it however.
MTBR has some cool vids on Norco's new 650b rides.

i dont do spin class. earlier in the summer doing full body workouts helped a lot, it definitely got my endurance wayyy higher where it is now. i think doing a spin class would definitely help but you should definitely do other workouts as well.

IMO bikejames.com has some good info and i believe there is a free workout there, which is the one i was doing for a while. for some of the exercises like the lunges/squats i would add weight by just holding plates. i think it worked well.

you really do need to have your entire body in shape, not just strong legs, that will only get you so far. your upper body definitely takes a beating on the downhills, cornering, etc. and the better shape its in the more enjoyment you will experience. IMO

    Yeah.
I just can't seem to "work out." I have to be doing something, which is why I like mountain biking. I am getting older, though -- my wife just reminded me that in less than 15 years I will be 60! I told her maybe in age, but not in mind and body. One of the guys I ride with is a 62-year-old Viet Nam vet, and he keeps up just fine. Just ride!

Oh, and I do play softball as well, which does use different muscles, or at least the same ones in different ways.

    And 12 oz curls.

yeah i guess it depends on what your goals are with riding, i wanted to get in the best shape possible and start racing eventually, but for just riding around riding a stationary bike would probably be fine.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
I find that supplementing mountain biking with a little extra cardio(simply running helps) and plyometric workouts helps all aspects of my riding, especially balance.

I used to be an asst trainer for crossfit and also used to be an Insanity rep, and I can tell you both are great programs to help all your riding muscles come together and crank through climbs and descents easily.

Most people don't wanna pay for gyms and/or workout programs so I always suggest running at least 1.5-2 miles a day then doing simple push ups, jumping jacks, leg lunges, squats, plank abs, and deep stretching. 3-4 sets or until you can feel your muscles hurt. :D

it seems like everyone who rides an AM bike at my shop rides a Turner. I think about 3 or 4 Turner 5.Spots were at the ride I went on Friday. I've never ridden one but i hear they are really nice. I think one thing that people really liked about them was that they were American Made. I think the guys at the shop said they are moving production to Asia for 2013, unless they already did for 2012 i don't remember.
