Never had to resort to that........and they have been super krusty from a mudfest here and there before too. About the only thing I clean is my chain, chainrings & der pulleys. Much else has to just fall off on the next dry ride.

Yes I know the cables are hanging a little low, but plan to pull them up closer with a few zip ties, I was just super excited to pick it up yesterday and took it out for a spin when I got home. Also had to strip those reflectors off as soon as I got home, LOL. Bike rides really well with the new AUTOSAG feature, really simple to set up your rear suspension.

Love the bikes. Anyone else running rigid single speed? Anyone have a Canfield Nimble 9? Interested to hear about it.

A bit of spam (I apologize)....

2012 Niner Carbon Air 9 frame, fork, seatpost, EBB, BB, headset, clamp for sale.

Was going to be my race bike (only has ten dirtroad/smooth single track rides on it), but an injury late last summer has kept me off the bike since. Over the Fall I was hit by some weird energy/fatigue illness doctors are still trying to figure out.....looks like my race season is gone for this year too in unless something comes back on the tests to tell me what's going on. I'm managing one ride a week on the snow bike presently just to keep the legs turning - but man, it wipes me out.

    Cheers

Checked my psi in my tires last night and they were down to 15...haha so I aired them up to about 45. What is a normal psi for single track or is it all personall preference?

Personal preference, but 45 would be for road only riding for me. I've gone tubeless over the last year and have experimented down to 22 psi for singletrack, but 25-28 seems like my sweet spot. Most tires now days are very high volume as well which gives a little more protection against pinch-flats and rim damage.
I'd probably be running 32-36psi with tubes for moderate tech singletrack.

Just pull the calipers off and remove pads and clean with some rubbing alcohol around pistons and such with a tooth brush. Hit the pad with a little sandpaper lightly and inspect rotor for any wobble or damage.

    Are yours hydro or cable?

sick bike! I hope they can figure out whats wrong. Id be bummed if I couldnt ride a lot.

I usually run about 35 psi. Below that and I tend to get pinch flats in rough terrain. I still get the occasional pinch flat at that though. Im also a bigger guy so that makes me need to increase the pressure. But yeah I would start in the 30s and go from there. If its not so technical riding I would increase the pressure a tad though.

as far the brakes go its probably just that they get really hot. My old brakes did that on long downhill and didnt shut up. There was also horrible fade after a lot of use. What brakes are you running?
i wonder if it hangs so low to account for growth since its an FS bike.

Probably so but still would rather have them run down the sides of the top tube instead of under the downtube. As was stated, still sick bike and would deal with it or just recable it myself.

hydro. Id hate to have to do that much cleaning after every ride!

Thanks for the help. hayes hydros. Not sure on model or anything though.

the pads have been replaced recently too. probably 4 or 5 rides on them and I had my bike tuned recently as well with two rides on it now since then

I know the chainrings will hit first. I was thinking more like brush or sticks getting hung in it. I ride in forested areas and sometimes there are trees down close to or on the trail where you have to ride thru some brush from it and sometimes depending on where it is and how often the trail is ridden, the front tire picks up shit that actually gets stuck in frame near rr derailleur and you have to stop before it breaks spokes or the derailleur and pull the crap out by hand. Then there's the mud from front tire caking all that bundle up if it ever saw any wet trail. I know it's small concerns, just my take on ever having cables run down the downtubes connected to the frame, much less dangling like that. Wouldn't keep me from owning or riding it for sure.

If the pads are new they will likely make noise for a while until they seat properly. If they get wet they will make noise as well. Just give them a few more rides. Sanding and brake cleaner usually don't work.

When dogs are aggresive with me, I am aggressive with them. A good kick to the jaw usually calms them down. In the past I have tried to be nice to aggressive dogs and have subsequently been bitten. Not any more.

I hate that and I own a dog I like to walk on trails.

You should turn the dog owner in. I say that not to be a dick but to preserve both your right to ride the trails (I could easily see that person complaining that you are to blame for scaring little fluffy) and my right to walk my dog responsibly (on a 6' leash). Besides, if fluffy is chasing you, imagine what it's doing to the wildlife?

I have hit like the exact spot before. It was slow speed stuff though but I still smashed down on the downtube just above the BB. Theres a little dent now. Just personal prefence I would never run my stuff that way.

I dont think I would be able to hit it though on higher speed stuff for the most part. If I did the cables might be the least of my worries haha

I think it is going to be awhile before we see Specialized and Trek come out with 650b models.
