i personally don't like avid compared to shimano. i rode the XO trail brakes on the 2012 slash last year and they had the worst brake fade. It was demo though so maybe they just needed maintenance idk. I use elixir 5 brakes on my bike and im always afraid im going to lose power going on long downhills. Ive ridden shimano XT brakes a few times and would take those with icetech rotors over avid honestly. Even the new SLX brakes are solid. i also like the shape of the shimano brake lever too, it feels a little better for 1 finger braking

yeah if your ever near harrisonburg try and get a ride in

Any good trails in NC? I will be out there in a year and would like to be able to keep riding.

    What part of NC?
mtnbikewnc.com is a good resource. The Pisgah-SORBA chapter in Asheville is a phenomenal group of folks.

Sorry. ..wrong end of the state then for what I posted. Check trails.com. or singletracks.com. - should get some good info. I've heard there's a few trails around Jacksonville but I'm not familiar with the area.

Well I bought em today for cheap ($180) with 160 rotors. I threw on the front brake with the 160 rotor ( I use to run a 203) and the brakes have less power than my old elixir 3. I'm tempted to sell the XO and buy some shimanos. I have heard only good things. What's the price point for some good shimanos? I ride all mountain. Also what size rotors?

Speaking of brakes, I replaced the rear pads with the new Shimano vented pads. So far, so good.

nice, i really want to upgrade to shimano, after riding the SLX im tempted to go to those with some nicer icetech rotors, i feel like that would be a solid braking set up.
thats weird though, i would think they would have decent stopping power. maybe they need to be broken in? idk, the rotor size might be the difference though. like my avids are okay, just not shimanos, i wanna say ive seen shimano XT brakes for about 140 +/- online, idk what an LBS would have them for. a lot of the guys around here seem to run shimano, XT, XTR, Saint, Zee, you name it but it seems that for the most part the run shimano. . i would love to try some formulas, my friend has some and he likes them a lot. i run 180mm front and rear rotors with my elixir 5s though and i consider my riding more All mountain.

i ride daily to try to stay healthy. probably the only reason my wife tolerated hanging out with me while i went mountain bike shopping.

GOOD GOD, bikes have gotten expensive. i am eyeballing the latest from Santa Cruz. gotta research 27.5" tires.

If you can afford a SC Bronson, by all means, more power to you! They are awesome bikes with the Blur/Tallboy DNA. Dont worry about 27.5 tires or wheels for that matter---they are readily available these days.

I almost impulsively ordered one the other week lol, but I had to check myself and said "TRD supercharger first!!!!" :D

    BOOM :)

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Santa-...214?pt=US_Bicycles_Frames&hash=item43bb914f2e

PS you MIGHT want to run to the local bike shop and fit yourself for one just in case a medium TRC is too small. Santa Cruz Bikes are sized smaller than most bikes. They are one of the few who offer XXL size frames lol. You might be a large, and there is a large TRc for sale as well from SC DIRECT.
