Thanks for the look out! I will add those to the list of parts
I'm trying to keep it in the $150-$200 range total so hopefully I can get everything I want/need for that.

No shame in sporting up composite pedals. Lighter. Cheaper to replace at less than $10 a pr. Who cares if they don't last as long. I roll with them on several of my offroad bikes. They are completely justified on that low budget freshenup freebie bike project. Replacing the cheapy gripshift and rear derailleur is what I'd be spending upgraded pedal money towards. Hell, I wouldn't even bother on doing disc up front either. Vs be plenty for that bike.

Looking at the pic I dont think he has the twist style grip shifters, it looks like the push button style.

here is a parts list of what I replaced on my first mtn bike that I had bought used.

    Rear der.
    http://www.pricepoint.com/Brand/SRAM/SRAM-X5-9-Speed-Rear-Derailleur-2012.axd

    cassette
    http://www.pricepoint.com/Brand/SRAM/SRAM-PG-970-9-Speed-Cassette-2012.axd

    chain
    http://www.pricepoint.com/Brand/SRAM/Sram-PC-971-Chain-with-Powerlink-Gold-2012.axd

and for a set of cheap pedals if you decide you want to replace
    http://www.pricepoint.com/Brand/Wellgo/Wellgo-LU-A52-Flat-Pedals.axd

That puts you at $119 with pedals, or under $100 without.
Just some stuff to consider. But like you said, go with a new chain for sure then you can upgrade/replace the other stuff as you find necessary

youll probably want to get new cables too, the ones on the bike look rusty, even if they arent it probably needs new ones anyways haha.

honestly i had some plastic odyssey bmx pedals on my hardtail and rode some technical trails with them and some teva links and they werent bad. the slow stuff was harder but they stuck fine everywhere else. they werent as good as a decent set of metal pedals but they were okay to get the job done.

edit: oh and yeah the fork looks like it could use some work. the stanchions look rusty haha. i just dont know if it is worth it to get a new fork and i dont think there is anything you can do about the rust on the stanchions. check this out for parts too, might find a deal on stuff.

I am located in the Abingdon/Bristol area of VA. It's a Giant Yukon Disc. It's got Hutchinson Scorpion tires which are relatively new, new seat with built in storage "trunk", new aluminum pedals, I think I still have the Clip pedals too, Jagwire brake cables, Both front shocks individually adjustable. All Shimano gearing and shifters, etc... Hayes Disc brakes front and rear. Frame is 19" I think. 2 water bottle holders. Fantastic shape, barely ridden. Recently been serviced at the local bike shop. I don't know what to ask for it... I was thinking 450.00 OBO... new seat and pedals were 100.00.

These pics don't show new seat or alumnium pedals

I think it was only around $60-70 when I bought my last bike and had to be shipped from KY to TX.

Thanks for the input guys! Yes I do have the lever/button type shifter. Once I get tubes and a chain I will decide what needs to be upgraded. It does shift surprisingly and the forks are a bit rusty.
I will keep in touch in here with the questions I'm sure to have.

If someone were to give me at least 425.00... I would split the cost if the hassel isn't too bad. My wife has a Trek 4300 disc. Bought last year, and she even admits this Giant is lighter and easier to ride. Out the door with options it's a 950.00 bike, not including the new pedals and seat :)

I would prefer local pickup though :)

I read your post wrong I thought it was just disc brakes. I have a screaming 10month old on my hands today.
