bb is bottom bracket, the bearings the cranks spin on. if it runs smooth then it check the suspension pivots, they could be loose. its possible the bb may need to be taken out and regrease the threads since they can creak (assuming its a threaded bb since its a bit older). my bike was creaking bad under load but the cranks spun pretty smooth, found out it was the pivot hardware haha

you guys have no idea how big I have been smiling since I bought it. not only because I have something to ride, but something I can tinker with and tune. im gunna have this thing torn apart pretty soon, especially the crank set

Screwdriver, Crescent wrench, and a hammer. What more do you need? :D

Seriously, you only need a couple specialized tools. A good multi-tool you can carry on your rides, a set of tire levers are the basic stuff. Make any trail side repair a ton easier. And if you're not sure how to do something, pinkbike.com have a ton of videos to teach you how to do almost anything with your bike.

Screw driver... hammer... for a bb job on a bike? Come in bro you know what I meant. Last time I checked a multi tool dosnt remove bottom bracket cups. A full size metric Allen set is under $15 and well worth it rather than fooling around with a multi tool in the garage.

A 8mm, bbt22 bb tool (or similar I just like park tools) crank arm extractor unless those shimano cranks have self extracting bolts and a tube of anti sieze will do the job. You will probably need a breaker bar to get that old bb out if it haven't been done in awhile. I like to use a old set of handle bars. Post up if you need some web help.

guys, im undoubtably a total newb. my local bike shop educated me on some basics. luckily they are booked on servicing so I took the bike back home to utilize my new knowledge. for their time I bought an over-priced shock-pump, grips, and seat post so all is fair.

AIR GOES IN FORK HERE. apparently I have air forks, currently running 40psi and liking it. much better than the very little that was in before.

AIR GOES IN SHOCK HERE. I knew the rear was air charged but they said I should baseline pressure In regards to my weight. 160 psi feels good.

WE WONT KNOW TILL WE TEAR IT ALL APART, BUT HONESTLY, IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS JUST LOOSE. yes, one of my cranks was a little loose. I feel like a dumb-ass, left side was tight and I never thought to check sprocket-side. bike is smooth, quiet, and fuckin beastly now. some lube on chain, sprockets, and derailers made a world of difference too.

thank you guys, Tacoma world saves the day. . . .again

    NICE!!!!!!

^^^^^and that's awesome Kayla!!! I didn't realize he was on GTs. They've hit a homer with your brother, Gee and Rachel as well as their sweet new trail and AM rigs. I'm glad they ditched that goofy Idrive setup, but it did work well.

Was stoked to go riding this weekend but this happened last night :( .I think it's just the crankset (FSA Moto-X) that I have the replace, tell me if you see something else though?

The bike is a '11 Norco Bigfoot

I'm just out of warranty, is this a difficult repair?

    P.s.
From personal experience and reading reviews the FSA Moto-X crank is a POS. This is the second time I've replaced it, first time under warranty. I haven't even taken this bike down a trail yet

So the crank arm fell off it appears.? If the splines are ok, can't you just mount it up and tighten it down. If the pinch bolts are coming loose, maybe loctite em....

its hard to tell without looking at it in person but from pics online it looks kind of like the head of the bolt broke off some how and is stuck in the spindle. the design looked similar to shimano hollowtech in the picture so thats what im thinking. its possible that the bolt just fell off too but its hard to tell

It's pretty easy to replace the cranks & bottom bracket. Before you replace that tho, can you clean off the BB axle and inside of the crank arm, replace the arm and tighten the pinch bolts?

If you go the replacement route (which it sounds like you might want to do at some point), you will need a bottom bracket tool to remove the old BB. Depending on what you get to replace it with, you may need a different tool for the new one. You can find youTube videos to show you how to do that swap. It's pretty easy to do.
